Issue with iFretless Guitar update

Comments

  • Still not playing ball on my machine.

Also noticed that when I do set midi bend in ifretless to 12, it disables the wheel (pitch bend wheel) in cubasis.

  • Cubasis is still not able to receive or to edit other midi messages than notes. That is getting more and more frustrating when you intend to work seriously with ifretless and other great apps..

  • It recorded pitch bend from Nave for me.

IMHO, it's not any one app that's the issues.
The problem is they're all talking a different
    language.

  • Is this recording on a MIDI Cubasis track directly from iFretless or Nave? How do you set that up?

  • edited August 2013

    Nave as input

    Cubasis as output

Set cubasis midi connections to Nave (both input and output)

    Press record

In the mod and keys page of Nave, pitch bend wheel is on left side above keyboard.

    Also works for Thor

Not sure about other apps but these 2 worked fine.

Edit...yes,recording onto a cubasis midi track.

  • Also tried this (as several times before). Playing in Nave with pitch bend, recording in Cubasis. Only note messages received in Cubasis midi track.

  • Cubasis set to on in Nave? ( midi dev button...tape & Sys page)

Both in and out midi connections set in cubasis?

    Latest ios ect ect?

  • Very strange and a roll reversal....see earlier notes regarding ifretless base.

PaulB could get ifretless bass to pitch bend and,try as I may,I couldn't.

Tried every possible combination and still the fing wouldn't bend.

    Have you got/tried Thor?

No, not yet.. but won't give up :-) Guess, it's still a Cubasis issue, - wish it would have that perfect workflow as Nanostudio already has, in this regard... Anyway, thank you :-)

  • Not so sure it is (just) a cubasis issue...as some ppl can get some apps to work with it.

And midi and ios being what it is at the moment, there are too many variables to pin the issue down.

Lets hope ios 7 and/or a midibus sdk can solve things.

  • I'm back to BeatMaker 2... I've stopped using Cubasis just because of the way it handles MIDI messages other than notes. Sustain Pedal events, for example, are recorded as long notes (the Pedal events are not recorded), making it a nightmare to edit piano tracks. Also, editing Velocity values in such a small space under the piano-roll window is so difficult. And we have no Automation... I like Cubasis, but I'm waiting for it to get serious. Now all I would need is Auria with BM2's MIDI capabilities...

  • @commonstookie Hang on. Are you trying to get the recorded MIDI part to play back the pitch bends in iFretless Bass? I recorded the MIDI in Cubasis using iFretless Bass as a controller, but I played it back using Cubasis' built in Piano instrument. Not tried using iFretless as the MIDI destination.

  • Yes @Paul.
I'm playing in ifretless and trying to get my bends to be read by Cubasis.
But there coming out as either as series of individual notes or....(when I did what you said....no bends at all)

My work around has been to use the cubasis keyboard with the wheel.

Ok. This is as clear as mud...

    I know you're recording this.
    iFretless ==> Cubasis (with bends)

But are you trying to play back this?
    Cubasis ==> iFretless (with bends)

What I had working was this.
Cubasis ==> Cubasis Internal Piano (with bends)

  • No...I just want bends to end up on cubasis
I can't get them from Ifretless,so I'm playing notes in ifretless and adding the bends in cubasis (wheel).

Works ok but I found that Nave and Thor send pitch bends into cubasis and it reads them fine.

Would be nice if ifretless did it.

  • Ok, there IS a problem, but only if you try to send the MIDI data back to iFretless Bass. Cubasis has recorded it, but it's not getting interpreted correctly by iFretless.

I get bends recorded just fine. The built in piano bends all over the place.

  • Ok,thanks
Can you select 'no instrument',so you can hear how it plays ifretless

Also in the edit window, the note you bend,is it showing as a single long note event or as a sequence of stepped notes?

  • I just lowered the channel volume in order to hear how it played iFretless, but as I said, there's problems in that area. Annoyingly, I've just now had it working perfectly, but I can't reproduce the steps to do it again. It does seem to be possible though.

Bent notes were shown as single long notes.

@PaulB, @commonstookie I'm really sorry this is so difficult. I'd like to know if the same problems are occuring in other midi sequencer apps (aside from cubasis). This is not an area that we have spent a lot of time testing.

@mmp iFretless Sax is awaiting review from Apple. It should be on the app store in 7-10 days.

We have a special offer to users of iFretless Bass and Guitar: Make a video of yourself playing an iFretless app and post it to YouTube and we will send you a promo code to get iFretless Sax for free.

  • I can't log in to my BlueMangoo account on this forum. Not sure why.

  • @Sirhans - does said playing have to be good?!? Haha

  • @Sirhans,hello
I tried ifretless bass with BM2.
I used the BM2 keyboard for my first test and it worked perfectly with pitch bend wheel.

I then tried using ifretless as controller and for the last 10 minutes have been getting crashes.

Would be interested to see how other DAWs handle ifretless bass as midi controller and how they record a pitch bend.

But...until all apps have the same midi engines,I can't see what an individual dev can do about this.

(We've been here before,I know, but this issue has become a bit of a joke now...
    Community.... Come on!?)

  • I did get the whole iFretless ==> Cubasis ==> iFretless MIDI pitch bend thing working perfectly yesterday, but only the one time. I need to spend some time tonight working out how I did it, but I have a rough idea of what to fiddle around with.

  • edited August 2013

There are two things going on here.
    1) iFretless won't respond to incoming MIDI pitch bend unless MIDI destination is turned OFF in iFretless MIDI settings.
    2) Getting the pitch bend amount to match what was originally played. It's not as simple as setting both apps pitch bend parameters to the same value. Still working on this one.

  • Making adjustments to pitch bend amount in ifretless disables cubasis pitch wheel?

  • I don't think so, but I haven't worked out exactly what's happening with the bend amounts.

  • Happening here, but only when key is pressed down on cubasis keyboard.
