Chord progression app

Is there an app, which allows not only creates different chords, but has chord progressions for different music styles?
Something like this:

  • As far As I can see that’s just.a collection of midi files

Would work with Cubasis or MusicStudio or pretty much anything really.

  • Has there been a grudge match between ChordPolyPad and Navichord people? Which is more user-friendly and reliable?

I only have ChordPolyPad. I like letting it randomize chords for me. I curate them, then randomize some more until I have a selection I like. Great feature.

The other feature I really like in ChordPolyPad is that each chord pad also functions as an X-Y pad assignable to any two midi controllers, so you can shape your tone as you play the chord. I usually assign one to volume and the other to mod. This is great for pad sounds.

  • I found Navichord to be really user friendly and it also has a great randomization option and song mode, etc. wish there was an arpeggiator and maybe a better way to play melodies over the chords on the iPhone, screen seems a little unnecessarily divided

  • This does not look like your example, but I think it might fit your description of what you want. This is a free one to try with a $6.99 IAP:

  • Or you could just buy the midi files for ten bucks, job done.

  • Chordbud has quite a number of built in progressions. You have to manually insert them but it will lay out the progression on its chord grid so it's quite easy to enter them.

I recall the Honorable @benkamen saying Chordion 2 was in the works. There was no ETA though.

@brambos A simple chord progression sequencer would make for a sweet Odessa plugin! Add button brings up a little dropdown window with wheel style selects for octave, root note, chord type and step length. Same window if you long press on a previously entered chord (for editing). Would be great if there was a way to rearrange the clips on the timeline but not needed for an MVP IMHO. Same goes for voicing options. Come to think of it, having "mutate", er, mutate the voicing would be awfully fun. Would be a perfect companion sequencer for phasemaker or driving the arpeggiator. Just to be clear, I'm not talking about a piano roll or any of that crazy. Simple like the bassline sequencer but instead of notes, they're chords.

  • @Wrlds2ndBstGeoshredr : Thanks for that re CPP. Informative comment.

  • @CracklePot Thanks for the Suggester link - i didn’t know that one . The first impression after dabbling around for 10 minutes is quite positive.
