  • Santa came early with Rozeta, then keeps coming back to drop off more goodies...

  • So what the heck. I can’t do anything with cells. No matter what it only show the same int pattern.
How do I activate the other cells?

Activate the record mode and use the host’s keyboard to record notes and chords into the cells :)

    Hit “Record”.

Rozeta Cells can almost replace midiSTEPs for me now.

Only some minor things are missing like have the option for Empty/Rest button to advance (when 'Advance' is turned on) to the next step when tapped and a 'Delete'(and go to previous cell). And a silent 'wish' for having the 'Empty/Rest' act as a 'tie' if/when notes are held down when it's tapped. To me these are natural 'evolutions' of the features that are already there ;) (1/32nd notes and and 'faster' would be considered as bonuses).

  • Here’s a fun setup! Build a chord sequence in Quantum. In Quantum MIDI devices select AUM. In AUM route Quantum to Cells and Cells to your synth of choice. Hit record in Cells and away we go!

  • Just grabbed the update, awesome. Thanks Santa Bram!

  • Is this comparable to modstep?

Hadn’t noticed before because I’m mainly using Rozeta in AUM but it looks like a mix of the apps scale properly in BM3 but some don’t. XY, Rhythym and Bassline are fine but the rest don’t seem to.

  • Sweet Merry Christmas Brambos you are so cool man!

  • outstanding! brambos you are brilliant and amazingly productive

  • This is so cool (as is usual with your apps)! I especially like the way you can load up a sequence, play it linearly, and then tap anywhere to start playback from a new point. It feels like playing an entirely new sort of musical instrument.

Quantum, and now Rozeta, have totally changed the way I make music. In just a few short weeks midi sequencing has gone from slow, thoughtful choices to effortless modification using random starting points as seeds. Individual midi motifs, however good, now feel disposable because it's only a few seconds of work to create another completely satisfying clip. Instead of hoarding my best musical ideas painstakingly sequenced into midi, it's like having a supply of fresh, great midi clips so great that hoarding just isn't needed anymore. Hundreds of ideas can be created and explored in an afternoon - which is much more fun than spending that time coaxing midi notes into a piano roll.

In the 90's I had a Roland PMA-5 and that felt futuristic. Imagine, midi sequencing that you could carry with you. And in the few hours since Rozeta cells has been released, I've probably made more music than I was able to make in all of the years than I owned the PMA-5. I've got Rozeta sending wifi midi to Ableton and I'm capturing page after page after page of midi - then deleting it because I know the next groove will be every bit as good.

Rozeta is one fine piece of work! I feel quite privileged to have access to a tool like this at a time in my life when I have enough free time to settle in and explore it fully. Thank you for all of the work you put into your apps, BramBos!

Is there a demo explaining this in more detail? I’ve got it working fine, but I don’t get the grid layout or how/why 4 out of my 20+ cells are highlighted or a couple other items I don’t fully understand yet. Awesome, for sure... but I don’t understand all it’s functions completely yet.

Yeah man, I've just added Rozeta particles into Quantum (Device for Output:Aum; for Input:Quantum w/ midi-thru; Midi-In icon active) and Rozeta cells (Input:'Aum'Destination) into Moog Model 15. (Particles could be recorded in Quantum as chords, and a sequence from Quantum in Rozeta cells) ;) Toggling on/off record in cells ... :) Recording in MidiSteps (Input:any;Output:x)

Could be operator error, but "advance" doesn't seem to be working for network midi input on iPhone. (Or I'm not doing it right yet. :) )

***Never mind. Works fine after a restart. I think it didn't like how fast and furious I bombed it with notes from a classical midi file.

Thats what I call routing! Oh my holy midi mother.

  • I love all the other Rozeta plugins, but I’m just not getting this one. I got it working but I but be missing something. I would like to see some more video’s of what you are doing with this.

@brambos (or anyone else) Quicky questions:

What does a cell ring that is bolder than the rest signify?

What is the difference between having your sequence entered linearly in a straight line, versus making more pattern oriented shapes within the grid?

How does “move freely” differ from random?

  • Thanks @brambos - appreciate the update.

Accented versus unaccented cells. You can specify both velocity levels in the MIDI preferences panel.

For linear and bounc play modes there is no difference, but...

How does “move freely” differ from random?

"Random" jumps around non-empty cells willy-nilly. "Free Move" mode moves the play head only to adjacent cells, while trying to avoid jumping back to where it came from. So this mode will get more interesting when you start laying your cells out in 2 dimensions: designing fields, mazes or lines which split at certain points: when the playhead reaches a cross-roads, it will randomly choose the next direction to follow, but will not jump back unless there are no other options.

Oh cool! I see a double-tap sets the accent and some percentage variation/probability can be set for velocity in the midi settings too.

Thanks! I think that clears everything up for me, other than why I bought the Senode app. ;)

Well, in its most basic use case, it will let you play polyphonic patterns (up to twelve notes per cell). There’s obviously more you can use it for, but the polyphonic aspect was missing from Rozeta until now.

Not available to download yet... can't wait!

    But I do have a question @brambos.
Can these cells output midi to drive Kontakt etc and record midi notes into my DAW?

It would be great to be able to label the cells for chord names - there is no way of seeing at a glance what notes each cells holds.

  • Does this work only in AUM yet?

BM3 and with a 'work around' in Garageband (ie. record AUv3 midi to a track and move the record track to another AUv3 track).

  • wow this app keeps growing and getting better and better. I just use cells to send midi out to my desktop to play Albion one orchestral strings. amazing!

  • I‘m on iPhone, so no BM3 yet.
    Thank‘s for the info.

GarageBand works on the iPhone ;)
    (Needs to run iOS11 though).
