Looking for elegant solution to integrate Reason 10, Logic Pro X and iPad

Started using Logic Pro last month, which has been awesome for light to medium tasks - I love the fluid integration it has with my iPad Pro , with mac’s built in recognition of it as an audio/midi device. I’m able to control Logic AUs and iPad AU’s at same time, recording the iPad’s audio + the midi stream in Logic .. Also I thought I had the reverse working once, but ever since I can’t figure out how to reproduce sending Logic’s audio into the iPad (Wanting to use Auria Pro/Fabfilter effects on Logic’s audio stream, and be able to save the midi and processed audio stream in Auria. If anyone has any idea how to accomplish this, I’d be eternally grateful. I’m using Komplete Audio 6 as midi/audio interface.

Now, for another hurdle I’m looking to overcome: I found my 2014 entry level Macbook Pro wasn’t powerful enough for the heavier loads I was trying to throw at it, so I decided to turn my powerful desktop (formerly a windows 10 gaming rig) into a music workstation. Purchased Reason 10, and love it as much or more than Logic ..it handles anything I throw at it.

Now, for my ultimate setup - I’d like to get all three computers working together as efficiently as my iPad works as an audio device in Logic ...
I found some possible software based solutions :
Vienna Ensemble Pro 6..
description states “Your total cross-platform MIDI and Audio LAN solution. Deploy it as a host on your DAW machine to coordinate your Vienna instruments and third party VSTi/AU plugins. Shuttle the audio streams from your macs, or pcs, back to your main computer using only an ethernet cable.

the drawback for me, is price. I blew my budget on Reason and Ensemble is nearly as costly, $340 bucks. , but I may pick it up in a month or two if its the best option. The fact that it comes with a nice set of sampled orchestra instruments is definitely a bonus.

I also found the ipad app, Studiomux , that comes with a VST plugin I can use in Reason ...I’ve heard mixed results about it. ..

Would so much appreciate any advice on what I’m trying to accomplish here, hopefully from someone who has successfuly traveled this path.

Btw, I also have a Mac Mini (2013ish) that I was hoping to be able to use as an extra node in Logic, but was dissapointed to learn Apple killed support for cluster computing (what they called Nodes) after Logic 9 ..so maybe I can find another way to bring the Mini into the fold. Not sure how many computers the ensemble pro license covers.

  • I would say get 2 audio/midi interfaces with optical/spdif and a bunch of disposable I/O’s so you can route your signals back and forth. Or a more streamlined solution would be getting a iconnectAudio4+, which, AFAIK can hub multiple devices at once.

  • The iConnect4+ apparently supports 2 computers (ios/Mac or PC) .. That might just work if I use iPad as an aggregate audio device on my Mac and use the the iConnect as main device for mac and pc ..hopefully the iPad will sync properly with PC in that scenario , but your first option might be more reliable in the long run—especially if I add even more hardware down the line... Thanks for the suggestions!

That’s what i’m Looking after for myself since I decided that 2018 will be a good year to get back to a computer but not willing to pay premium price for a half decently spec’d MBP.
