It's a real bummer to read this. Bm3 is such a deep app, with features many of us have been waiting for years literally.

I thought, that BM3 is still not there where BM2 waWA

Just curious, could you give some examples of such new features compared to other Apps and esp. BM2?

    • The Session view like in Ableton, the possibility to slice a loop onto pads and recall the sliced MIDI data on any clip: Very elegant imho.
    • More useful FX, like the advanced Dynamics Processor, MVerb, Saturator
    • More flexible use of IAA and AUv3
    • Smaller footprint of the original app. Wasting 700MB of storage with BM2 samples I never used and was unable to delete was quite annoying, really.
    • Macro controls. Still room for improvement, but at least they do exist ;)

The lack of Midi Sync is indeed a major step backwards and the reason why BM3 still cannot be the main sequencer in a hardware setup :'(

i really was hoping for BM3 to be the answer but to me it now seems like reaching with your right hand above your head to scratch your left ear. i wont even try to understand why i have to manually map midi notes to pads to make some sound. i wonder why they did not include keyboard keys into this mapping procedure just to make BM3 more tweakable...

You dont manually map, but you keep ignoring that.

I’m still confused as to what you’re trying to do and why it’s not working for you

easy: i want to let Patterning trigger a drum bank in BM3 - Patterning sends Midi and BM3 is supposed to be the sound module.
In Cubasis this is a matter of seconds with no mapping at all. just set your ports and midi channel and off you go...
To me this is a basic task - rendering Midi notes into sound. So it should be a basic operation with no mapping, no setting up more than Midi port and channel!

Did you turn on the midi input port in settings?
It took me 1 minute to achieve what you were trying to do.

yes, the appropriate midi port is enabled.
it took me one day to not get it done. i can trigger the selected pad with changing pitch according to different midi notes but that's about it.

single channel mode as you suggested didn't work either...

  • Just got somebody to record this for you

  • Is patterning outputting midi to its own port?

  • BM3 is far from intuitive. As a rule of thumb - don't try the obvious :D

  • Here is a configuration working for me :
    Patterning Midi configuration

    BM3 Midi configuration

[Edit: this has all been answered above. Not sure how I missed that.]

  • @Sygma I didn’t see your post. That’s even more straight forward. No Focus Action needed if you change the Patterning MIDI out notes to the BM3 pad notes.

  • BM3 seems to be the REAPER of iOS. Each and everything can be tweaked but nothing is working right out of the box...

This seems to be pretty straightforward for me, but apparently you have already made up your mind. I hope my previous post could help you though !
