Harmonizer AU Effect?

Is there an AU effect (or IAA if not) that does a good job of harmonizing a guitar signal (or maybe GeoShred)?

Another one: TC-Helicon Voice Rack has both IAA and AU support.
Seems like it can only add one voice though :/

    Also check Virsyn Harmony Eight.

  • How is latency on this? I find Tc Helicon VRL a bit laggy.

    I’m not hearing any latency
    (Running various synths through AUM)

I bought it right after asking the question. It has the same lag as voice rack. That's cool, don't mind spending £2 really.

My vote is for Harmony Eight. I actually really like the sound of it on guitar.

  • Update on the Harmonizer effect. While trying to work out the app I discovered that it cuts a substantial amount of high frequencies from the original sound. So even when all the settings are down to zero, the sound when bypassed (in AUM) is radically different from the original. Not good.

Again, I don’t mind, it’s just £2 but it is going straight back to the cloud.

  • Thanks, guys! I tried the Harmonizer app but haven't gotten it to sound great yet. Might check out Harmony Eight...

  • Have you checked out EchoPitch? It is IAA only, iPhone only, portrait mode only, but sounds pretty sweet. 4 pitch shifted delays, or no delay harmonizer mode. It is a hassle to use because of the mentioned drawbacks, but worth it for some tracks.

    oops wrong app

  • Just bought Harmonizr. Sounds great but I find the UI very confusing. Even after reading the manual I can’t really figure out what’s happening. I don’t know what each voice is responding to and how they are laid out. Even what the “7” and “min” mean for each note.
Can someone recommend a good tutorial?.

  • Surprised Eventide hasn’t come up yet. Set the standard for harmonizers and these are both lovely:
    MicroPitch: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/micropitch/id1463785645
    Crystals: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/crystals-harmonizer/id1504257443

EchoPitch does have an iPad version, by the way…

Reach out to the dev. He sometimes responds here too but he is very helpful with figuring it out.

My guess is 7 means 7th chord and min means minor chord.

  • I always liked the sound of the Virsyn stand alone one. Harmony Vox I think it’s called. Very powerful toolset and could sound quite natural too. Used it on a few pieces previously.

Eventide QVox is an intelligent harmonizer. Great for Allan Holdsworth style fusion harmonies.

Harmony voice?. Not auv3. I own Harmony Eight, nice one, but I wanted midi input for more control. Harmony Eight is very easy to grasp.
I wonder if the “vocoder” ones like VoxSyn can be made to sound natural, just as pitch shifters.

I've never found them to be natural, but I quite like the Virsyn flavour of synthetic.

  • Yeah, I’ve also never heard a harmoniser as ’’naturally sweet’ as VirSyns Harmony Voice (cheers for correction). I sometimes do use it on a dedicated device to get latency as low as possible for vox and avoid any IAA issues.

Definitely worth checking out the Eventide apps.

7 gives you a seventh chord or scale on the root appearing below the 7 button. Min gives you a minor chord or scale on that root.

Thanks. Do the buttons do anything when using a keyboard?. I’m guessing they’re exclusive but there’s no indication anywhere. I really don’t get the UI, it seems like 2/3 of the screen are taken up just to select the root key and mode, and it seems like you can’t make your own “mode”. I’m sure it’s me but I’m having a hard time with it. For example, when playing a chord on the keyboard it doesn’t seem to reflect on the little colored dots… it does sound pretty good, though, that’s the most important.
I’m also looking for a nice and simple vocoder, trying to decide between VoxSyn or DerVoco. I much prefer the looks and UI of DerVoco. I wonder if adding many bands to a vocoder will allow it to sound natural like a harmonizer.
    Thanks again 🙏

The Virsyn vocoder is excellent, I'd say it's the best on iOS. It's good enough that Kraftwerk use it in their live shows.

And here's a German band doing a great cover of Earth, Wind & Fire's 'Can't Hide Love' using Matrix Vocoder. Pure Herbie Hancock vibes.

If you set it to midi then it takes the kb input and ignores the buttons.

Re making your own scales, it looks like the first version had that, but I've never found it in the second version. The dev's Facebook indicates there's a beta so maybe it will happen.
