Update landed and Quanta sounds awesome to me and my Air 2
Does the update fix (or get around) the Safari issue?
Lol, this reminds me of 90% of the the app threads on this forum. Not knocking the forum, it’s a universal cycle,
Hype
Anticipation
Reality
Rinse
Repeat
@skiphunt that’s great to hear!
Says they’ve upgraded the file system, fixed loads of bugs, and sorted the crackling...tempted now...
Is it just me where 'noise in' is as good as unworkable because much too loud?
Starting to get the hang of it...and liking it...But this is learning curve city.
Still crackles a lot
I still get a lot of clicks at note start using presets (I.e. keys) when triggered by Rozeta baseline midi (assume this may be voice stealing but basssline is only monophonic)... hmmm. iPad Pro 2017, one instance, triggered by Rozeta. ADSR has some attack.
@skoptic
It‘s the release phase that matters in your case of a monophonic bassline. When a note-off happens, the synth voice still plays until the releae time is over - if during this priod there are more note-on’s than available synth voices, some of the playing voices need to be stopped immediately which sometimes result in a click) to play the new notes.
Yes, this is what I had assumed. It’s not a hugely active pattern, so the lack of voices and clicks makes it kinda unusable
I’ll play around and see if I can get it to be non clicky!
It still does not convert sample rate so playing at 96khz on an audio device results in incorrect pitch a la the chipmunks 🐿. I sure this will be fix soon though.
Yes I believe you are correct, in other devices I use the click does not occur in this circumstance though, just the stopping of the voice.
Now bought it, loving it so far, just made my first custom sound with my own sample. I’m not usually one for sample based apps (preferring pure synths) but I can see me getting some amazing sounds from this one.
Same
Yeah, @Chris_Randall : ) congrats on the release&updates ... thx&greetings
Does everyone love this now? Can I buy it without Safari exploding?
I’ve had lots of fun playing and yes, if it gets clicky you have to massage it out of voice stealing editing # notes, envelopes, grain length and shape, so all good. I appreciate it comes fairly pure to allow the most flexibility which is how I’d prefer it. So don’t let my comments put anyone off - it’s a raw beast and huge fun
thanks @Chris_Randall
Having bought Quanta earlier today and driven my family up the wall with making strange and wonderful noises (!), i needed to do something quieter while they watched tv, so I read the manual - I know, what a nerd! It is very clearly laid out and thorough, and I thought that I would share a couple of things that I learned in case you are not the manual-reading type (I know there are plenty around).
Actually with all the controls available, this is quite the powerhouse synth, over and above the granular engine, and it is all very accessible and easy to use. The envelopes and lfos are amazing and the mod matrix is wonderfully easy to use. If you wanted, you could just use a selection of raw waveforms in the grain engine and treat this like a two oscilator synth, but obviouly adding more complex samples gives even more scope. I’m so glad I got this.
Yeah I love it, deep but easy to use
My sentiments exactly. On desktop, the envelope section is super slick and easy to use. Doesn't translate to the ios version though.
The auto zoom simply isn't intuitive. Not only is it pretty fidgety (requiring several taps and drags to get it to take) but it is very difficult to tell by looking at an envelope what it will actually sound like due to the constant perspective shift.
Given the craziness you can create with the envelopes though, is there a better way than the rescaling and just knowing how long you set each section for?
And yeah, I've been enjoying loading voyetra and SH5 wavs and occasionally mixing in the second oscillator. I love what the granular engine does to them.
All in all, I think AD nailed what they set out to do with this synth. It's so simple to wrap your head around, has a lot of flexibility (lookin at you, amazing envelopes), and sounds great.
My only problem, and it's a personal one, is finding the right sample length to use for samples with both percussion and synth tones to create rhythmic patches.
Hmmm...anyone else getting random note shifting since the update? I'm playing the AU with a non-MPE keyboard, and when holding a chord, sometimes the pitch will just drop for a second or two as if I'm sliding down on an MPE keyboard.
I too find this synth a joy to play and learn. There is real joy in discovery here. I think the layout is logical as I was up and running almost immediately. Top job!
After the update, this is really a solid app. I wasn't having that much issue from the launch version, but now it's nearly perfect.
I don't have the high-level knowledge of professional sound engineer/designer. Just a bumbling enthusiast... but I'd put Quanta in the same sound design ball park as Synthscaper and LayR. Only, it's considerably more intuitive and easy to get great stuff quickly. And the factory presets are all magnificent. Worth the much more than the cost of the app alone.
yeah, good point. It would be cool if it was a switchable setting for those who like to keep their envelopes on the less crazy side
