ok think I’m gonna grab this today.

Yeah think I’m ready too. Only held back by the Safari stuff, but that doesn’t seem to be an issue now.

  • Ok, took the plunge...

Only had half an hour play in standalone and AU, but no issues at all so far. Loaded in my own sample, and had an interesting jam going pretty quickly with Spacecraft, and found the two apps compliment each other well.

CPU usage is a bit juicy which makes the controls a bit jerky at times, so I doubt I’d get more than two instances going, but I can make a fair bit of noise with this and Spacecraft.

    Yeah, pretty good.

  • Another little tip for those who may not have realised. By default the oscilator and the grain engine are both pitch shifted by the played note so that they play a normal scale, which is usually what you want. However, if you feed the oscilator into the grain engine, it is then being pitch shifted twice, so a one octave chromatic scale becomes a two octave whole tone scale. So it is best if doing this to go to the matrix and set the Oscilator Tune by Note point in the grid to zero (it is 100 by default) so that the pich is only adjusted once. This also means that you can have the oscilator on its own, or through the granulator, but not both, unless you want discordant sounds.

Yeah it took me a sec to realize this at first. The discordant sounds it can produce are cool as well though. At certain frequencies it can absolutely warp a sound.

Ah ha! This makes perfect sense. Thanks for pointing it out.

  • So is the Safari issue officially resolved?

I haven’t had any problems - I downloaded the presets (you have to do this after installing the app) via the link in the app, seems fine so far.

I like the app, it’s good, though I keep expecting the sound to change when I move my finger vertically on the waveform display.

    Good app, no regrets here.

  • Quanta just updated. Beware.
My presets are crashing in AUM and apeMatrix so might be best to hold off for now....?

  • yeah, just came here to post the same. I love quanta so much, but it's causing so many problems. keeps causing AUM and everything else to freeze up entirely. Had to do multiple hard resets :(

I spent a while mapping a midi controller to Quanta in Aum. But now every time I open the file, Quanta crashes..

This is one of my main frustrations with AUM: when a plugin crashes (which seems to happen fairly often) it resets all midi assignments.

Anyhow, I've been having problems with Quanta freezing in standalone and in Auv3. Especially when switching apps.

  • It’s happening in all hosts, Audiobus 3 as well. Please tweet audio damage too, so they can see it’s a global issue. It’s starts up ok if you start a fresh, but I want my state saved sessions back....

  • dammit. I really have to start checking here before updating.

In apeMatrix, I got crashes whenever I tried to save an .mp3 sample preset. I converted the sample to .wav in Audioshare, and all was clear.

    So new projects are unaffected?

  • Whoa very crashy indeed

  • I started reading this page wavering towards picking it up, didn’t last long!

I’m sure stability will return soon ...

The un-updated (second) version I have is rock solid. I fence-sat for ages before taking the plunge, but really pleased with the app so far.

  • Anybody figured out how to select a unique midi channel when using as standalone? Seems to be stuck in omni, tried to use it in AUM with its midi routing but it still responds to all midi channels, pretty useless.

It's probably ok if you save all your presets before updating and then reload them again after updating.

If you've got loads of presets saved in a host session and not in the Quanta gui then it's a problem like I have.
Annoying, might try a reinstall but there seems to be no way to back up the imported samples which have been saved with a host session and not in Quanta. These don't appear in the file system anywhere. So I'd lose those I think.

Useless is the correct word for the midi section in standalone. I'd think audiodamage would have thought this part out in an otherwise extremely well thought out instrument. On my 9.7" ipad, the box where you select midi devices gets cut off (it's non-scrollable) and as you mention, it seems to be stuck in OMNI mode.

  • this is what happens every time I bring up a session up with an instance of Quanta. New or old. I reinstalled, same thing.

I trust they're on the case.

...and if Audio Damage happens to read this, please add midi Program/Bank Change support asap! any professional instrument needs this feature.

and the absolute icing on the cake would be to bring the microtonal support to the Auv3 as well :)

Does the same on my 12.9. seems to me the standalone was an afterthought to the AU version. Don't really understand AU, a cut down interface only useful if all you do is preset playback, not seeing myself wasting anymore time on this lemon.

haha I wouldn't go that far. The instrument itself is anything but a lemon. Quanta is Amazing. Everything but the microtonality and the little keyboard are there in the Auv3 (perhaps you didn't make the window full screen?)

But it seems that they simply released it before they worked out a few major bugs as this thread attests. I'm willing to wait it out, but I do wish that their support was a bit more reassuring :| I've messaged them in the past with some questions about other products I've purchased and never once heard back.

I'm gonna take the optimistic view: that they're busting their asses fixing this and they have no time to answer support emails. :D

  • in AU i found the layout too small and fragmented, I couldn't find the filter section at all?

  • @palm said:

ah, I might be a bit too harsh but yesterday wasted an age trying to work out that midi channel assignment and got really annoyed, getting fed up half finished apps. Are you saying theres a way to see the AU window full size like it looks as a standalone? I only get the little half window, not just in Quanta.

  • @lerosa said:

(tap there to toggle envelopes & the rest).

Double tap to expand to see the rest without the keyboard...

  • Despite this update hiccup, the AU version is great, I hardly ever use the standalone. Use in full screen mode is best. But the filter section can be seen if you select the four knob icon on the top when in letterbox view mode.

    appreciated, I'll try that out

  • is there a default way then to see any AU's full screen like their standalone counterpart? I tried to drag the edges of the small letterbox default window but it doesn't resize, I might be missing something very obvious here

Double tap on AUM windows title bar...
