No major issues here using iPad Air 2 so I don’t understand the Safari issue. I did experience some clicking but as above solved this by tweaking the envelope. All good
Hey man thanks and that sort of works but the way I use synths/samplers I tend to end up with the odd voice stealing which isn’t usually a problem (infact it can be a great sound when I do this on my Juno 6) as all my gear doesn’t pop/crack when voice stealing occurs.
I don’t wanna change my way of playing to avoid pops.
I believe there is a VST demo you can check out so you can test.
Very confusing for us fence-sitters:
half the comments saying they're not getting pop/clicks, others saying it's an issue....
half saying no problems with Safari, other half saying it's been borked....
some saying it's been caused by downloading patches, others saying they have the issue but only using factory content...
comments on how wonderful it sounds, mixed in with 'totally unusable' comments...
I don't think I've ever seen such a mixed response to a new app!
Then I guess you should pray to be in the happy 25% or less people who get everything good at this point. Or wait for an update.
I noticed when Im using it as an AU (Cubasis) the clicks/pops almost disappeared completely. I’m happy now how it performs and gonna have some fun.
Smart decision. You and @MonzoPro can take another beer 🍺 and enjoy the show a little longer.
I hardly ever fence sit, but definitely on this one.
I love fence-sitting, it's all part of the thing, but I was ready to buy this the second it popped out - having to pause is painful. Good price, totally my kind of app - and I can even live with the popping/clicking - but the CPU hit could be an issue with my old pad, and I really don't like the sound of the Safari thing.
Waiting for the dev to say everything's completely fixed, and then I'll jump in gleefully.
Now I've learnt how to workaround the voice stealing clicks, I'm really in to it
.
It's a bit of a shame the ipad version is restricted to 6 voices when ipad pro could handle 10 easily and more, but maybe that's to make the desktop version more desirable I don't know.
Yeah the desktop behaves the same way with the voice stealing so I recommend checking it out to see if it affects the way you use it. It really does depend on the style you use it which is why I think some people missed it.
I would prefer if it was updated to change this but I can use it as is and love it.
Thanks Carnbot, I think I'll have a look at the desktop demo over the weekend, see what it's like. I was imagining something similar to Reason's Grain but I guess that's not the case.
A fix for the iOS version Safari bug thing today would be nice, then I can spend tonight in a mildly drunken haze shifting grains around in a haphazard fashion.
I’m keeping it, but so far this one hasn’t enchanted me. Most likely my fault. Glad it supports Full Screen in GB though 👌
For me Quanta is so far the only Granular synth I feel 'at home' with.
Downloaded the desktop demo and knew that this is something I have to have on my iPad.
The only annoyance for now are the auto-zooming envelopes. (really wish they had zoom +/- with pan/scroll).
I’ve yet to figure out what the wave form/sample view does or tells me. Any clues?
It's a rough graphical draft of the 'sample' that is currently loaded with peaks.
Tapping on the waveform sets the start position from where the grains are picked.
To get the 'feel' for it set number of grains to 1 and increase the length to 300 and set the shape to the first square shape. Put one finger on the wave-form (to set the position) and trigger the keyboard to play the sound, move the finger to select different positions while playing the keys.
The path to clarity, drunken haze, grains inside your brain.
Today I played with Quanta again (au Cubasis) and also couldn’t discover any click/pop sound holding the latch/release button playing max voices constantly
I’m start to wonder if it could maybe be a cpu or ram memory thingy that only sporadically occurs.
that's not the case with me, consistent clicking when voice stealing on any preset.
Hi. I’m a noob. What is voice stealing? Just got quanta and also wandering how to export iOS presets to desktop presets... I love the sounds it creates
I have had the same issue 2 days ago....yesterday only sporadically tiny clicks and today it (was) click free. I have no explanation for it and also like to know the cause, because I just closed Cubasis opened the same preset (bird song) and the clicking is back.
Best way I can explain is I have a Juno 6 which means it has 6 voices so you can play 6 notes on the keyboard simultaneously and each note will create a tone/sound/voice.
If you hold down all 6 keys and then press another key a voice is stolen from one of the initial 6 keys.. you lose a sound which is used to play the new note. This can create a cut off the tail of a voice if the envelope is long. In the digital world the same sort of process is used although I’m no programmer so I don’t know the details.
Your second question I have not tried myself.
So is it now good or not?
It seems there is so much hype about coming iOS apps and then it goes the other way.
Sorry, confused.....
Me too.
Ugh the clicking and popping makes it highly unusable in the ways that it's designed for.... If the presets click n pop then you know we got issues...
Would love to see this fixed rather than get a refund
Yeah...still kinda waiting for Chris Randall to appear with the hologram of Steve Jobs and announce “Everybody into the pyoool!” before diving into this one.
I bought it last night and like it a lot.
Haven’t watched any of the demo videos at all, but was able to get going quickly making my own sounds. Import of my samples was easy and straight forward.
No problems with Safari at all.
Figured out half the app on my own without manual, tutorial or demo in less than an hour.
Downloaded the factory preset samples that are all magnificent. Seeing how they were made, ie. their settings... got me another 25% more knowledgeable of the app within another half hour or so. Getting to the last 25% of depth with take a bit more time of exploring.
Overall, excellent UI design and very well intuitive.
Got some of the crackling that others have reported when making my own, but was able to dial most of it out with envelope adjustments and backing off grain levels.
I wish there were a way to see what your adjustments are doing to the visual pane the has the grain/wave thing while you’re making adjustments instead of having to switch back and forth.
It likely needs a few post launch tweaks and refinements to dial in efficiency, but this is a very well designed and sophisticated granular sound design app that’s easy to figure out without too much effort.
It reminds me of the high level of hardcore sound design capabilities inherent in Igor’s superb Soundscaper synth, but easier to grasp the UI.
Would buy this one again in a heartbeat.
