Sorry for the necro bump :D

Has that been used as a title for an Album yet?

  • Absolutely one of the best synths iOS has to offer, and for my money, the most realistic port of a real instrument so far. Always get my mind blown when I use, but maybe that’s because I don’t know exactly how to use it to this day 😅

wasn’t it the b-side to the monster mash?

You’re thinking of Sorry for the Necro Hump by Juicy Lucy.

  • Can anyone explain like I’m five what the different colored pegs do? That’s one part that is a total mystery to me!

One colour inverts the signals I think

Yep, red, and the green pins have 2/3 the resistance/attenuation of white pins, which have none, it’s all explained in the info box next to the matrix:

It makes me wonder, is there a real life version of the inverting pin, or is that really only present in the emulation?
Thinking about it, burying a transistor in one might do the trick, though you’d be missing either a ground or a positive I guess…

According to Wikipedia the red and white pins differed in tolerance only, which was apparently important where pitch tracking was involved, see this on SOS: https://www.soundonsound.com/music-business/all-about-ems-part-1#para4

Edit: the article actually goes into a lot more detail, I didn’t know that so few had been made

  • It’s on sale for $6.99 but I’m broke for another week..

Gotta hope for some bandcamp sales I guess 🥺

  • Most authenticate imitation I’ve played with too. Love all the added features. It’s going to take quite some time to fully get to grips with it but hours well spent.

  • Thinking of building a mini hardware controller for this.

There is a mod where you can have one or two inverting pins, but those are hanging from a cable coming from an internal inverting circuit built inside the VCS3 or synthi. About colours, there are also yellow pins, I use them to differentiate patching paths. About the white/red, they have the same resistance, but in the early days the reds where matched within 0,1% for better tracking using then to control VCOs, the white ones were standard 70s 5% tolerance resistors.

  • so can this app sit in the fx slot in Aum; in order to run other audio through the effects of this synth?

Yes, and individual aspects of the synth - the envelope, the amp, the oscillators, noise, the filter and the spring reverb - are also installed as separate individual AUv3 plugins when you buy it.

For those who don't know, I've got a series of videos on how to get up and running with iVCS3. Check them out here:

  • Thanks all! So if I want less of an effect I stick in a white or green pin… gotcha

  • From the manual.

AUv3 Module MIDI and Audio Implementation is as follows...

VCS3 (Instr) Accepts MIDI Input but not Audio Input.
VCS3 (Fx) No MIDI Input but accepts Audio Input.
VCS3 (MFx) Accepts both MIDI Input and Audio Input.

I literally watched those right after I bumped this thread and it sold me on getting it… I was like , “ k I’m gonna buy this on Friday if I have enough after the bills”… then it goes on sale! The timing is crazy lol

  • Just got it!!!

The UI is fine on my phone even in GarageBand … size is no issue . It’s actually far easier to navigate and see than OB-XD (which I love the sound of just not the interface)

  • Excellent stuff

Since y'all necroed this thread... Time to share this again

    Thats amazing but

Would like to see an encoder version ( auv3 mode )

  • BTW. For folks struggling to get their recordings out the app.

Select samples under the 3 dot menu.

Saved recordings are in the shared folder section.

Select the recording and choose document picker.

    This opens iCloud Drive.

Choose the location and select save.

  • so i purchased it. but when using as au in aum. do i need to pull up all the individual oscillators envelopes amps. etc. and use it that way
    or
is there an Au. version of the complete synth?

The complete synth is an au

The full synth's plugin name is VCS3, for some reason it's under a different manufacturer (Apesoft) than the individual componenents AUs.

  • oh cool thanks
