Best Hammond B3 sound on iOS?

  • For those that didn't catch it, here's my more recent comparison of the various Hammond apps on iOS:

  • Ive been using VB3m since it came out on an old ipad Air1. I was happy with it and as I’ve never played the real thing not sure what I’m missing. I control it from a MODX.
A couple of days ago i got B3-X as its on sale. I was hoping for more.
First big issue. Its doesn’t work well on th iPad. After reading sowed posts on the internet i can see in not alone. Shame IKM haven't updated this on the App Store.
But i also have an iPad Pro and it works perfectly on that. It sounds ‘better’ to me. Not sure what it is, but it’s sounds a bit fuller and larger. A bit brighter as well. Very impressed with what IKM have achieved. I especially love the drawbar presets in each main patch. Very cool idea.

The problem is i cant get it to wok as i can the VB3m. For a start it always defaults to the default patch when i start it. Not a big deal, but a bit of a pain. I’m also very used to using the Superknob on the MODX to control the drive. I cant find anyway of going from clean to driven with just one knob in B3-x. I can adjust various gains, but then it all gets louder. VB3m doesnt do this, it just gets dirtier.
The other issue is i really don’t want to be taking my iPad Pro out, and if i did my current holder worn work with it. So a lot more expense to use this.

In the end, I expect ill stick with VB3m. I got a refund from Apple, but can still use B3-x if i want, but unless i can overcome the above ill not bother. For what VB3m costs its amazing and so close, especially with the band playing.

  • Hi there. I’m looking for an alternative to the soul organ sound in GarageBand. I really need something that can play in AUM so I can play other sounds. But every time I try something from Galileo my band (and me) doesn’t think it sounds quite right. The GarageBand soul organ preset really cuts through and I haven’t found anything better. I know GarageBand limitations, but it does sound great live so can anyone help ? Thank very much Nick
