I'm going to say something controversial -Samplr is NOT a must have app

  • @rcf exactly, well said.

  • Don't forget.. Samplr is NOT an app.. it's an instrument.. :)

I Love Samplr + Koala equally.. more of a mood choice than a features choice..

  • do we really need any apps 🤷🏻‍♂️
samplr is considered a must have for many reasons , and it was simply ahead of its time on ios. its apps like samplr that paved the way for the amazing apps like koala that exist today.
it attracted a lot of people to ios and to use it the way we do now. its a app that “ must have” happened in order to be where we are now,
kinda like the beatles to rock music.
you may think their music sucks but they are a must have in order to pave the way and inspire many after them

Hrmmmm...so you are saying that without the Beatles we wouldn't have One Direction?

lol well i think terrible music like that would have eventually surfaced just like it did pre beatles but we may not have had tool 😎

I'm sorry, but the mere fact that the OP compares two apps that are so unalike shows that Samplr has been misunderstood. I deleted Koala; not because I didn't like it but because I won't use it. On the other hand, I would pay three times the current Samplr price just to keep it on my iPad...

I agree. Who the hell does OP think he is?

    Wait a minute...

Tool is all you need 👊🏼™️

  • Definitely clickbait lol. I mean who the hell was ever saying in the first place that sampler was 'the must-have app of 2020'? (complete silence) 🤔

    🤫😁

  • The issue with a must-have app is that it's usually very limited.
To the requirements of the person suggesting it, that is.

  • @kobamoto

Love them all, but particulary 1 & 4

  • No disrespect to Koala, but does it do anything that Werkbench wasn’t already doing years ago? I haven’t played it, but when I watched the demo video, my first impression was that this guy has totally copied Werkbench.

  • One of the joys of iOS music for me is that there are so many cool and unique apps available.

Some of them are ‘essential’ but the vast majority of the apps I have bought certainly don’t fit in that category. Even the essential ones could be replaced if necessary.

Switching things up every now and then can be cathartic.

I intend to give Samplr a good go one day fairly soon.

I've always been a 'programme every note in a sequencer' kind of chap. The spontaneity possible with a performance tool like Samplr is appealing and a little alien.

They aren’t very similar. I guess the workflow and especially the sequencers are very different. Koala can play samples chromatically too. But also Werk doesn’t seem to be available on the iPhone (anymore).

Werkbench on the phone would be really great actually.

    Wow! Those are really great.

  • I know this forum is full of silly threads but come on...

    Let me put it differently:

Cubasis is not essential but Gadget is.

  • How about adding ‘to me’ to your op? :)

  • For me samplr is like toilet paper. The moment I don't have it anymore I start to panic. Samplr is the most easy and fun way to create music on a touchscreen interface (for me).

  • i mean they can’t even spell sampler right, obviously the e is essential duh

As for toilet paper, the most important is the fineness of the grain...

Didn’t plan it that way, but hey. When in Rome, I guess, haha. Thank you. Gotta find ways to keep people entertained.

Samplr has one thing going for it that I think makes it very valuable.

It’s one of the best examples of an app designed specifically for the iPad.

It is beautifully designed and the UI and UX are great.

A lot of audio apps on iOS are very similar in concept to desktop apps and in many cases look and feel like desktop apps (sometimes badly) squished into an iPad screen.

Samplr is designed to work in a way that is unique to multi-touch devices.

That certainly doesn’t make it essential, but it is one of those apps that can’t really be replicated on desktop, unlike many others.

So essential or not it is definitely an exemplary app and one of the best apps to show off the potential of multi touch devices for music creation.

But it’s an instrument. To some people It’s a bit like telling sometime a Stratocaster is essential when they don’t play guitar.

So no. Not essential. Unless it is. :-)

Kind of like Schrödinger‘s app. Simultaneously essential and non-essential depending on which multi-verse you belong to :-D
