Can Enso play more than one loop at a time or does it just jump from one “sector “ to another?
I’ve read manual and looked at tutorias, spending far too much time trying to get a simple looper to work 😳. Is gauss (or any others) more user friendly? Interested in sound of it(degradation et.) but needs to keep time with host. Thanks!

You can run multiple instances for multiple loops. The sectors are just to slice your loop into 4 playable parts though you can make loops just in the sectors.

    Enso instablity is device related.

This is my iPhone SE running 6 instances and Model 15 as the sound source.

Gauss is an awesome looper too, kind of like an Enso where you can sequence the sectors and a whole lot more. The warble sounds very good and the hands on control of speed and direction is killer.

  • My 2 cents…
I’ve tried multiple methods and auv3 for looping audio files in AUM. I use LK in AUM to orchestrate dong parts, midi and audio files.

    • Enso works great until you try to load up multiple auv3 instances, then it starts crashing and becomes useless. I can’t remember but maybe it was around 5/6 where it would start breaking. The vectors feature is really cool. If you don’t need many instances, I’d recommend it.
    • Gauss is fun, sounds great, etc, but IMO it’s not an “utility” looper. If you want to always be in sync it’s not the one… it’s more for experimentation. As @wim points out you can sync it via midi messages, but it’s not worth it to use it that way. I’d love to have Gauss as a pedal for my guitar, but for making songs in an iPad it’s not really the tool.
    • L7 looper. A crash machine. On paper it’s seems perfect, in reality it’s a mess.
    • Drambo. Rock solid. Can use the flexi module as recorder and looper. But mapping and stuff takes a while, not really plug n play kind of thing. It can be a vibe killer if you want to get stuff done quickly.
    • Loopy HD. Rock solid too and THE classic looper. But it’s got one missing feature that made it nor work in my case. It doesn’t have a loop start/stop command. Only a “toggle”. So you can’t really sequence it from outside (LK).

Expectation is very, very high for Loopy Pro. Looks like the missing piece for audio looping/clips in iOS outside a daw, or with a daw for that matter.

  • This is my live setup using 2 Beatcutters and 6 Ensos. This creates a wild chuck the paint on the wall for the happiest of accidents. Don’t like a loop, swap it out and make another. Bit of a loop you don’t like like dub a new sample shot over it. This is my ultimate groove loop station, until maybe Loopy Pro finally comes to life, anyone know where Dr Franstein’s lab is?

Don’t you get crashes with 6 Ensos?. I might have been using more, or maybe it was iOS version… Id start getting crashes, then upon restart the Enso instances would be empty.

Re Loopy HD's lack of toggle, that is easy to work around. I posted a Mozaic script some time ago that you put in between your midi and Loopy that solves that problem. If you use it, you can toggle. It also adds loop sets.

Cheers gotta take a look at that again. Pres mo not having too much trouble with thi setup. Got a pair of ensos in a colulmn that can be toggled back and forth. Loving my Mixface, after a bit of head scrathing it allows for whole host of routing midi fun.

If the whole setup is saved in AUM then loads ok, I get a crash occassionally if just reloading last play, but it is seldom.

6+ Ensos should be easy for any newer iOS device. I've never had a crash on my phone but my 9.7" Pro wouldn't make it past 4 instances on a good day.

I have an 2nd gen iPad Pro. Don’t think it’s the CPU. I went back my original post , I was using 8 instances of Enso and had constant crashes.

  • Crashes are not cpu-dependant, it's memory. 2nd gen iPad Pro has 2 GB (right?), newer phones have 4 or 6 GB.
