Alternative uses for the headphone jack

OK so this is going nowhere (unless Apple is listening 😂) but just for fun.. Once an audio interface is connected the headphone jack is essentially a redundant port. In theory could that not be retasked? Having it work as a MIDI port or even click sync would be a huge improvement to the iPads connectivity for music production.
Physical connectivity isn't a strong point with the iPad/phone, Apple likes to gives the appearance that the future comes without wires, though loves to flog its overpriced dongles to anyone having audacity to qualify this lofty vision. We all know wireless has its limits, maybe it'll get better, maybe it won't but I can't imagine it will ever have the stability and bandwidth of a good old cable. I'd certainly buy a headphone jack to MIDI dongle.

  • CV/Gate out to drive an analog synth, a modular rack or just a tiny light show 😋

  • Toothpick holder.

  • Haha, yeah I know lots of audio interfaces have MIDI ports, I just can't get my head round the idea that more traffic doesn't cause congestion, that it's not better to separate streams.
