Restoring to 14.4.2 while apple is still signing it.

OK: how do you restore a previous version of the operating system?

  • First download the proper version IPSW here:
    https://ipsw.me/

Then do this, same theory applies to IOS 14.4.2 ,even tho this is from 14 to 13, it works the same:
    https://www.imore.com/how-to-downgrade-ios

Restoring to 14.4.2 solved he random noise issues for me.

Roland Sound Canvas doesn't work on IOS 14.5, when trying to start it, it says the developer needs to update the app 🙁

It's not even in the App Store anymore :'(

This may be related to the flurry of Apple certificate updates we've seen in the last few days. Maybe these retired apps are now going to be left behind. Unfortunate.

As far as I remember, it was removed from the store last year. May be they decided to focus on Zenbeats

  • is ipad pro 11 ( 2018 ) ok with 14.5 ?

  • Any more news/experiences about iOS 14.5 and AUv3?

The only news I know of is they still haven't fixed (or even acknowledged as far as I've read) the "disappearing AUv3s" bug. This is the one where intermittently all your AUv3 apps disappear from hosts. Rebooting the device brings them back. It affects some people more than others.

I haven't read of any others that have the crackling sound issues reported a few posts above.

  • It just feels like the disappearing AUv3 bug might never get fixed, the way things are going. 😡

  • It looks like iOS 14.5 is a pretty big update, see the release notes. And it finally offers the "woman with a beard" emoji we've been waiting for. Not much hope for anything substantive, though.

Clearly people like most that would be on this forum are nowhere near the target audience for Apple any more. Too bad. Oh well.

On the other hand, we still have incredible music making resources at our finger-tips. Imma do my best to stay happy with things as they are 'cause I don't seem them getting dramatically better any time soon, if ever.

Relating to a recent post from @Gavinski suspecting TestFlight updates as causing the issue. Do you have TestFlight installed?

Is there anyone else on this thread who does not have TestFlight installed and does have the disappearing AUv3 issue?

    Hmm. That’s an interesting theory.

I have TestFlight installed on my device and I’m heavily affected by the disappearing AUv3 bug to the point that I barely make music anymore. But why would TestFlight cause such a bug? Is there any evidence that removing TestFlight helped clear this bug?

None that I know of, and no reason I can think of. @Gavinski said he strongly suspects it as the cause, but didn’t say why or whether he tried uninstalling. I thought that a sure way to eliminate that as a cause (or not) would be to see if anyone who has the problem does not have TestFlight installed.

I think he felt that it was the Automatic Update feature of TestFlight that might have been causing problems. You can control it under the photo icon in TestFlight. I have it disabled and have only seen 2 instances of missing AUv3 since November. I also turn off Push Notifications for each TestFlight app, since it seems to generate a lot of network traffic.

  • I disabled auto update. But just now after making my next video, with the aum session still open, I downloaded the new Mynth beta. Immediately after that when I returned to aum I had the 'no AUs' message. It is definitely related to either downloaded or updating apps in general, or on test flight, I think, for me anyway

Hmm.. I too suspect that installing/updating of AUv3 apps trigger this bug , but only after an AUv3 DB load had occurred - since the last device restart. meaning, I can have my device run for a few days after a restart then when I’ll first launch an AUv3 host app such as Cubasis, DB will load just fine the first time . Only after that initial AU DB load, the bug is likely to occur soon afterwards.

Just another small data point, but I’ve never downloaded testflight or any beta, and I’ve never encountered the disappearing AUs issue. I update iOS regularly and it hasn’t happened for me on any version of iOS 14 on either of my 2017 10.5 or 2018 12.9 iPads. Maybe you guys are onto something about testflight. Best of luck in your search for an answer.

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • So, as we feared, it looks like iOS 14.5 requires the updated Apple certificate for app, see this thread. That likely means that old apps, no longer in the AppStore or Purchased, like Epic Synth, are now dead.

  • Okay I just disabled automatic updates within TestFlight. Highly skeptical this is the reason for the bug but going to give it a shot, nothing to lose really. If this solves the problem then it’s like the most random fix ever. Will keep you guys posted on results at any case.

  • I did some quick testing on my end with forcing some TestFlight installs with hosts open. It doesn't trigger the issue in this testing.

I don't think this is the cause of the issue, but it may trigger the cause in some cases. I don't think you can say that TestFlight isn't involved yet. This looks like it is an involved issue with several complicating factors that make it hard to diagnose from the outside.

  • Just a shot in the dark here, but I wonder whether installing TestFlight builds over production builds and vice versa, could get the whole plugin / aka app extension registration system (or whatever Apple call it) confused. I've not seen the issue personally and I use TestFlight a lot, but I always do "clean installs" because I'm a paranoid, cynical, treat everything with suspicion developer type

The last few days, I've been in a constant shift of overwriting an AU from the App Store, TestFlight, and Xcode to test various configurations. I've never triggered the missing AU bug. But, I hadn't ever installed an AU with an open AU host before. I close out my host apps whenever I'm done using one. But, doing that didn't trigger it for me either.

  • Is iOS 14.5 safe for music? Or I should wait before update?

What version are you on now and do you have any current issues? If you are are on 14.x already, then it doesn't look like 14.5 will cause or solve any issues as far as audio goes.

14.4. I want to upgrade to fix problem with my Xbox controller but I don't want to cause any issues to my music apps.

If you use any really old apps that weren't recently updated, you may lose them, see this.

  • Well Just experienced the dreaded bug again. Auto updates were set to off about 8 hours ago.

  • I've noticed that, with iPadOS 14.5, several apps crash the Preferences app the first time you open them in Settings. The crash is always SIGSEGV, and the app Settings always open fine the next time, so it's just an annoyance. Among the apps: Acrobat, Gladys, Google Earth, Nighthawk, and Opera Coast. And the following music apps: ID700, MiMiX, miRack, ToneDeluxeV2, and WOOTT.
