Cure Fans: Any update on new album?
Curious if anyone has heard any recent rumors or announcements about when the new Cure album will be released?
The most recent I can find is from back in September. They evidently finished it and also finished final tweaks, etc. Smith said it would definitely be out before the end of 2020, but then nothing.
I'm guessing they had planned a huge tour to promote it and with the pandemic making that nearly impossible... will they likely just shelve the new album until they can tour?
Comments
I have an update. For The Cure. It had better be good. I mean what happened after Kiss Me, did they start a chemical free diet or something?
I don’t know. I’m a Cure fan and like pretty much everything they’ve done. I take it you aren’t a fan and haven’t heard/read any recent updates regarding their new album?
Haven’t heard much news on it, I think covid slowed things down a bit unfortunately
I know that with streaming services and that most don’t really buy albums so much anymore... even big acts have to tour to make much revenue. Since they can’t tour right now, I’m guessing it’s not worth it to just release the album.
It’s a pity because they’ve had some great press and renewed interest over the last couple years of festival performances and a fresh concert film.
But who knows... the year isn’t finished yet
Ha ha, I tend to give them 2 more albums of leeway, up until Wish
But yeah, Seventeen Seconds / Faith / Pornography were what fueled my teenage years...
Disintegration happened after that, which I thought was a great album. Wish was pretty good too.
Although I do think all the albums since Wish have been a bit meh.
Poor guess. Everything from TIB to KMKMKM were a huge part of my life. Ok, I'll grant you there were a few good things to come out of Disintegration and Wish, mainly Lovesong and FIIL. Some of the stuff after that is just WTF? Disclaimer, just my humble opinion.
TIB was on massive rotation for me. Don't think I'll ever not have instant recall of a KAA, 10.15, Boys Don't Cry. Now that was an album with some ear bleeding guitar work.
Fascination Street is one of my all time favorite bass lines. Full stop.
I think the Bloodflowers album is mostly underrated.
Seems like knee deep in a global virus pandemic 😷 would be a dandy time for “The Cure” to re-emerge.
The Cure made me who i am today. 🙏🏼💕
Kids are reading this thread wondering if you’re talking about the vaccine.
Thank you, I totally agree! Hard to believe even that was 10 years ago...
If they'd name the album "Pandemic" or "Coronavirus," imagine how their search rankings would skyrocket. 😉 🤪
I'm excited for the new album, too!
Ha, the "solo" in Killing an Arab was the first piece of guitar music I ever learned by myself
Incidentally, when I first started taking guitar lessons, my teacher asked me to bring in some music I wanted to learn. I brought in a couple Cure songs, and he said "this is just emotional music, no point in learning this". Then he proceeded to teach me some Steely Dan and Police tunes.
Similar experience for me. At 6yoa I wanted to be Angus Young but my teacher (one of the few in Shittowne) was adamant I needed to be John Williams first.
They sound like the kind of guitar teachers who would be looking for new students if they took that approach with me...
They were. Unfortunately there were no other options so it delayed my guitar playing.
I've seen them live a half dozen times or so. Almost never disappointed but there was one tour that just seemed like they weren't into it. I can't remember what year that was, but it seemed like they were breaking up and that would be the end. I was overjoyed when then got back together. Their music has been a soundtrack to some of the most interesting times in my life.
I don't listen to them all the time. I get my fill within a month or so, and then I don't listen to them at all for a good while.
The last outdoor festival shows I saw were a couple of the best shows I've seen of any band to date. They looked like they really loved being on stage and performing.
I saw the concert film they did and released in theaters about a year or so ago... it was for the 40th? anniversary in an English venue that's supposed to be iconic. I've never been there but it looked amazing. I can't recall the name.
The experience in the theater was much better than I had anticipated. I went to a local theater that serves drinks and food (Alamo) and sounded magnificent. Not quite as good as live... by the sound board, but very good. And, I didn't have to have somebody's girlfriend up on her boyfriend's shoulders in front of me... or some drunk idiot talking at full volume next to me as if they weren't at a concert at all.
Would definitely pay to do that again.
I'm not that familiar with the pop singer Dua Lipa, but I read that her recent live stream show did some serious bank. So much, that they said even after the pandemic is under control and they go back to live shows... they'll be also keeping up the streaming events. So, several have proven that it can be done... and profitable.
I thought they were always one of the better live bands. Which always surprised me as I figured it would be hard to reproduce the awesome vocal insanity of Robert Smith live.
At the risk of sounding like a "fan boy" I think his voice has improved with age. The last live shows I saw were a couple years ago granted... but I saw very long sets on back to back weekends and he/they sounded incredible for both of them. Not a single misstep, and arguably sounding better than I've heard on any studio album or live performance I've attended to date.
Really looking forward to this new album.
Grandpa? Is that you?
Is that dude on keyboards in the second video one of McCartney's offspring?
