Need some help with ipad and audio
Hi fam,
I would like to use ipad mostly as a fx unit for audio, occasionally adding Ravenscroft piano or swam trumpet or trying to incorporate Fugue Machine. Centering my music around windows xp daw(clavIa nord modular g2 req) Is there any program to transfer audio over Bluetooth or local wi-fi, and for midi as well? If so, what program would I need to use on ipad and what on pc? I have a great quality pre amps a/d, wouldn’t like to loose audio quality connecting it to ipad.
I hope I’m clear in my message,
Kind regards
Matt

I'm just starting out myself, but I can say that the midimittr app is great for setting up bluetooth midi on the ipad. To play your ios apps like SWAM externally you'd need something like a CME WidiMaster midi dongle.
Are you doing any real-time playing from a keyboard or is it all programming/step time?
Is it too late to convince you to return your PC and instead get something like an M1 MacBook Air (which is the “cheaper” but still very powerful MacBook computer)? And Apple’s newest computers can also run Windows software.

Since you need to stick with WinXP, I don't see why the built-in SMB transfer in Apple Files app or Documents by Readdle or FE File Explorer Pro won't work for transferring files over your network using WiFi.
Nord G2 editor will work on Windows 7 64bit, and you'll be able to more easily transfer audio over a USB cable using iMazing or CopyTrans Filey, as long as the app(s) support iTunes File Sharing (AUM/AudioShare does). Those two iPad managers won't work with WinXP.
Nord G2 editor takes a bit of tweaking to work with Win10.
Another option is get two used inexpensive audio interfaces off Reverb or Ebay, or a iConnectAudio4+ to stream audio digitally, though I doubt its drivers works with WinXP.
When you say "transfer", do you mean just sending files, or do you mean for playing live? If playing live, you can forget about bluetooth or wifi for audio. It just won't be workable.
If you just mean to transfer files then Audioshare's FTP server is a good choice. Since it's XP on the windows side I'm not sure if a browser will work. Probably, but you also might need an FTP file transfer program like FileZilla.
Crossover is another option for running Windows apps in bottles. Just came out with v21

Interesting. Didn’t know Codeweavers made such a product.
Hi Fam, thank you very much for your input, much apprecited I would like to stream audio between windows xp and ipad to avoid cables and audio quality loss , > @ocelot said:
I will look further intio this possibility which gives iConnectAudio4+. I’d like to stick with windows xp because I already have a slim laptop which doesn’t take much space and it has firewire in, which is essencial for me. I might end transfering files back and forth using dropbox or other file transfer script which was mentioned here
Get a couple of usb class compliant SPDIF optical or coaxial interfaces
and stream the audio between the iPad and Win XP that way.
Sometimes PC motherboards have inbuilt audio interfaces with SPDIF
then you will only need 1 SPDIF usb interface for the iPad.
I had a look on Ebay and found this.

4-pin Firewire on Windows? Sounds painful, but at least it's XP, not Vista.
But I'm sure you'll figure out the best option. (iConnectAudio4+ doesn't have XP drivers, but there's plenty of other very inexpensive XP options on the used market.)
I had a 15" Dell XPS on XP, with 4-pin Firewire (TC Electronic Powercore), USB (MOTU, NI Kore, Nord G2). It ran as hot as an oven, but once I got everything working right (IRQs, etc.), it was a beast.
Good luck.
Try the Studiomux beta. I haven't tried it in Windows but it works well for me between iPad and macOS. Do a web search for Studiomux beta and you'll find the links.
