Zenbeats & Multi-output AUv3 instruments
I am getting really weird behavior while running Hammerhead in Zenbeats. It sounds as if it's rendering all outputs and mixing them together before outputting them via the stereo output (instead of ignoring the additional outputs).
This results in clipping and being unable to mute or properly manage the levels of my individual drum sounds (because the additional outputs are constantly blasting away at full force on top of the mixed output channel).
Can anyone confirm this behavior (also with other multi-out plugins)? Before I'll bug them about it I'd like to verify that it's not a problem or a missed setting on my end.

@tahiche and @anickt are Zenbeats power users
@brambos I have not used zenbeats in a while so I decided to see if I could replicate…. Of course the APP STILL CRASHES when scanning for new plugins. So sorry I give up. I spent the full boat of money on that ultimate package and now I never use it. I hope you can get your answers @MatthewAtZenbeats
Sorry to hear you're still having issues, @onerez :-/ Happy to work with you on it again. Just PM Me
@brambos PM me as well and we can take a look at the issue.
Cheers.
Matt
Yeah I was reminded of the scanning for plug-ins thing recently as well. Finally made it through the scan after about 6 tries lol.
Hi @brambos .
I took a quick look. When adding “parts” as per multi bus outs in Zenbeats, it seems like the first one or Out1 is a master out with all channels summed. Then out 2 is the kick, out 3 the snare and so on… To do real multi out I guess you’d have to mute the first out. My guess is that the master output is added by Zenbeats?. In other multi out auv3 like Drambo you can select the actual output, so you’d select out1 for kick… here it seems like since out1 is master the kick is sent to out2.
I don’t know if this is any help, but basically that first out 1 shouldn’t be there,,, makes no sense to have a master that’s added to the individual instances if you can’t route individually, because instruments are duplicated.
Are there any internal routing controls inside the plugin? When adding subtracks (sub outs) in Zenbeats, we simply assign each plugin output to new sub tracks sequenctially. If the first plugin output is just a mix of the plugin, you can manually go to the Advanced Routing option in the menu and manually configure the channels.
Hi @MatthewAtZenbeats ,
Thanks for looking into this!
I don't like settings in my apps: Every time you add a setting Cthulhu kills a puppy. So HammerHead supports multi-out in an idiot-proof way, without requiring channel configuration.
The first stereo out (0) is indeed a mixed channel with all sounds mixed down to stereo. This is what all hosts support, even when they don't do multi-out. Outputs 1-8 are the individual outputs, which should be optional and are typically ignored by hosts unless the user specifically asks for them.
If you use a separate output, you simply set the level of that instrument in the mixed channel to 0 (essentially mute it from the mix channel) so you only hear the separate output. This also allows for intricate things like parallel compression, etc
But the solution is probably simple: it looks like all individual outs that you don't need can be muted in Zenbeats. I'm just not sure how to collapse that AU channel to see all the separate outputs
If I can do that, all is good in the universe
Ok, I found it and after adding 9 subtracks and muting the last 8 subtracks it works as expected. But I still don't understand why Zenbeats renders outputs I didn't add yet? Shouldn't those simply be ignored until I add them?
But at least there’s a solution!
Oh, yes. You need to add all outputs (9 in total, 1 master + 8 tracks). I guess when a track doesn’t have its own output it’s sent to the master… but… I see what you mean, even if the master (track 1) is muted, the tracks with no output are heard through the other tracks. Right?. It’s all ok when all 9 tracks are added, otherwise it can be confusing.
Jeez, Louise … @tahiche and @anickt are DEFINITELY power users. You certainly know your way around this app and as usual @MatthewAtZenbeats = *1 in customer service and accessibility. Good to know .. Gives me confidence going forward in case I should run into problems in the future .
