I need an AUv3 FX unit for recording audio at 24 bits, synced with the transport button of the DAW
I have been messing with Cubasis 3 in the last week, using ApeMatrix for including audio buses, which is one of the great limitations of this DAW.
Well, the Mixer Send Receive AUv3 module included in ApeMatrix serves its purpose. I load an instance in the effects slot of a MIDI instrument or an audio track, and then I can add a new track using an empty group. Inserting other Mixer Send Receive instance in the effects slots of this empty group. And I will have the audio signal of the bus playing in the empty group.
The problem comes when I try to do a mixdown, creating separated audio tracks. If I try to create a mixdown without separated audio files for each track in the project, all it will work as intended, rendering the audio of the empty groups used for the ApeMatrix external buses.
But if I try to create separated audio files for each track in the project, it will not render the audio inside these empty groups.
So I need an AUv3 unit inserted in the effects slot, that it lets me to record the audio signal. And I need to sync the starting of the recording with the transport button of Cubasis.
I purchased MultiTrack Recorder Plugin by 4Pockets, and it has been a complete waste of money. Yes, I can record the audio inside one of my empty fake groups used in Cubasis 3 for hosting the ApeMatrix buses, but it will save the audio in 16 bits. And all my projects are in 24 bits, so it will degrade the audio quality of my project.
I also have tried using miRack as an AUv3 unit, using the 2 Channel MasterRecorder 2 module, which it lets you to record the audio signal in 24 bits, with an option for monitoring the audio. Using the Host Sync module to sync the start of the recording with the transport button in Cubasis 3. So when I press play, it will start recording. The problem is, the audio recording module doesn’t seem to work when it’s loaded inside an AUv3 instance, not saving the samples!
Recording the audio inside AUM, loading Cubasis 3 as an IAA instance is not a solution, because I can’t sync the recording with Cubasis 3. And it will record all the channels, but I can’t mute the channels used for triggering the audio buses!
And trying to insert the ApeMatrix external bus inside an audio track in Cubasis 3 it doesn’t work, it will only record the mic signal inside the .wav file, not the external bus audio.
What a tricky situation!
Any other option or app for achieving this?

If you don't use any apeMatrix specific features hosting the AUv3's directly in Cubasis should work...
...if the plug-ins have built-in sequencers that trigger their sounds create an empty midi-event first prior to doing a mix down.
(this since Cubasis will not render tracks without any events on them).
A bit more info of the included apps could be handy...
@samu, I think that the setup is clear enough. I have an ApeMatrix Mixer Send Receive AUv3 unit inserted in the effects slot of an empty group in Cubasis. This AUv3 unit will receive the audio of other track in Cubasis.
If I want to create a complete mixdown of the project in a single .Wav file, Cubasis 3 will render the whole audio correctly. But it’s not smart enough to render the audio in separated tracks, due to my hack for creating audio buses.
But it doesn’t matter if you are using Cubasis 3, in Audio Evolution Mobile Studio I had the same problem.
Simply, I need and AUv3 unit or InterApp Audio app that when it’s inserted in a FX slot, it doesn’t matter if it’s Cubasis, AUM or other DAW, it will let you to record the audio of this channel in 24 bits.
MultiTrack Recorder Plugin does exactly this. But it only has the option of recording in 16 bits.
I may be missing something here, but doesn't CB3 now have BUS tracks ?
Then I suggest getting in touch with Paul and request 24-bit support.

If the recordings have reasonably limited dynamic range and can peak close to 0 dBFS then 16-bits will be “OK”. Even carefully made 12-bit recordings can sound reasonable (cf: 12-bit samplers).
Well, after further experimentation, I have found a solution for recording audio from a FX slot.
Using ApeMatrix as an InterApp Audio effect in the inserts slot. And it syncs perfectly with Cubasis 3, when I play the record button, it will activate the transport.
Yeah, it has bus tracks, but these buses can’t be used as a source of audio for an audio track, so it comes with a lot of limitations if you are trying complexes routings.
To begin with, you can’t put a bus before the equalization and volume processing. So let’s say that you want to mute a track, but you still want the audio signal of this track playing in the bus, simply you can’t. Or if you alter the volume of the original track, it will aso change the volume in the buses. While using the ApeMatrix buses, you can put this before the Cubasis processing. After the ApeMatrix bus, you situate in the FX slot something like a volume knob created with the miRack AUv3 unit. So you can alter the volume only in the original channel by using the miRack mixer, while the bus send in Cubasis will not see its volume affected.
Other example: you can’t create audio buses from other audio buses in Cubasis 3. Let’s say that I multiply a same sound in a track in other 5 tracks using a Cubasis internal bus, each one of these 5 tracks with different effects. And then I want to multiply one of these 5 routed tracks with its effects in other 3 buses. In the way in which buses are designed in Cubasis, you can’t achieve this.
Using ApeMatrix for creating buses is a completely different history: now I can create in Cubasis routings as complex as with AUM.
Ahh OK I get ya now.
Nice that you have found a nice simple solution
