Ok, all I know is that on the real Juno (I’ve got a 106 with a broken voice chips) the difference between modes I & II (sounds like they both have individual LFOs) is very noticeable and when used togther it creats a very ‘wide’ chorused sound that the TAL chorus nails to perfection apart from the noise that is present on the original
Still I personally preffered the layered effect (I & II in separate instances) of the initial J_NO release and thought it’s a simple fix to just get rid of the ‘glitch’ by just running them in serial mode and to me it sounded like the glitch was caused by the LFO jumping between the rates for modes I and II instead of both modes using a dedicated LFOs!?
Anyways, this is just me nitpicking, it’s nice to have multiple options for choruses
Cheers!
@Samu yeah this is helpful! Thanks for the feedback!
I went and spent a ton of time reading / researching this weekend and it turns out that what I had done with 1.0.1 was horribly wrong and not the way to do it. It turns out it's a single LFO with 2 delays modulated by that single LFO. In I and II, respectively the LFO is inverted on the right delay from the left delay. It appears as though in I+II the LFO is sped up quite a bit (by like 10x), its depth is reduced, and the right delay is not inverted from the left one, they're both in sync.
So the whole "Chorus I ➡️ Chorus II" thing I tried is just wrong (in terms of emulating the original), but it sounds nice on its own and can be replicated pretty easily by stacking the plugin.
It turns out that TAL isn't actually correctly emulating the I+II setting itself (you can hear the wobbliness in this video
you can hear the super strong wobble), but they're doing their own thing that just sounds great. I imagine they're just changing the LFO timing / delays to be whatever they think sounds nice as well as adding a stereo expander / compressor, but I'm not certain.
Trying to keep with the whole "pay homage to the original" I'm gonna keep the wobbly-ness for I+II and not try to mirror TAL's style, but it shouldn't sound totally broken and empty like it did before. It's a lot wider, it's not perfect, but it's a lot better than it was before. I really wish I could figure out the chorus noise and add more of that too, but that's enough for this weekend.
I went through and refactored a ton of what I made and ended up with both fixing the issue, and cleaning things up a bunch too (should be more performant as well).
Here's 1.1, probably gonna submit this tonight. It's got a Big Sur icon now too!

Goodie, I’ll take it for a spin later on today…
Maybe this is actually the difference between the choruses on Juno 60 & 106 or something like that!?
Cheers!
So AFAIK the 106 removed the I+II setting entirely and it’s only available on the 60
Oki, sorry my bad…
The 106 does have a ‘hidden’ unison mode though that is not mentioned in the manual, press poly I & II at the same time.
I’ll just use two instances of J_NO as I’m not a fan of stuttery choruses
(I’ve already removed the Arturia clone which I got for free).
Take Care,
Oh hah! That's neat. My System 8 doesn't have a means of reproing that sadly
No worries
I really like the combination of feeding a mono source like Logic's ES M to an instance of J_NO set to I and then feeding that stereo output to another instance of J_NO set to II.
Cheers!
Yesss
Massive is also great for this
Well executed and free! Great stuff. One thing: original Juno chorus is noisy and this part is quite unique. Sounds like ocean waves moving between speakers (+ slight intermodulation with incoming signal). I think it's crucial.
