That's not the only thing that makes Android weak for audio work, but maybe the other issues are better running on Chrome OS. I actually don't know anything about the audio subsystem in Chrome OS.
If anyone is in a position to get support for plugins on Chrome OS (or Android) it's going to be Steinberg. It's pretty clear by now that waiting for Google to do it probably isn't going to lead to anything.
@LFS - I think @d4d0ug is asking if there's an update coming for Cubasis on ios - I think a lot of people may be interested in the answer...
Amen!
Ah understood...
We've just released two huge updates with many new features with Cubasis 3.2 and Cubasis 3.3.
No new update at this time unfortunately!
I’d guess at end of year based on the past few feature releases.
@LFS
Thanks for the reply😊
My iPhone is not on the same iCloud address! Is there a workaround to this please?
@Samu thanks for reply
I looked at doing that but a little concerned about loss of data on the phone. I will have a look at what it involves 🤞
Hi @Nu2moro,
Unfortunately we are not aware about other workarounds.
Thanks,
Lars
Is Apple's Family Sharing not an option worth exploring here? It does allow purchases on one iOS device to become sharable to another device with separate iCloud login details.
@jonmoore ill have a look at that thanks!😊
Many IAPs don’t seem to ‘family share’ though.
Yes, this would depend on whether Steinberg have set that option for the IAPs.
I know that there are a few apps that were purchased under my Apple ID on my wife's devices. When we recently upgraded her phone it simply asked for my Apple ID password, and the apps became accessible.
I'm fairly sure you can sign in to the App Store under a different ID without losing any data. Of course a good backup to desktop and/or iCloud is important, but I doubt you'll need it.
@wim
The problem is logging out of your iCloud Account. I think that causes the problem as it deletes the content on your phone.
Hoping that the family sharing option will resolve the issue! 🤞
Thanks for the reply 😊
I think you can log out of the App Store without logging out of iCloud. I could be wrong on this though.
Couldn’t resist the offer so I’ve now upgraded to 3. Quick question though, what files do I need to copy over from 2 to 3 so I don’t lose anything?
The login option under Settings–>App Store vanished somewhere in iPadOS 14 at least in my case. Not sure when, but it could have been 14.5.
Usually there's no 'loss of data' when signing out from iCloud, it will ask you if you want to keep the data on the device...
...and since contacts, mail, etc. are kept in the cloud you'll get it all back when you log-in with the original account again.
But yeah, it can feel a bit 'scary' and I would NOT recommend mixing apps or IAPs from multiple AppleID's on one device as it will make keeping the apps up-to-date a real pita. I've done this in the past on macOS (ie. install apps belonging to another AppleID). In the end after 'the trial' I ended up purchasing the apps to avoid the hassle...
Depending on the IAP I do feel the Cubasis stuff is worth it and if there hadn't been an option to transfer IAPs from Cubasis 2 I would likely have purchased them again as they add value to the core app and are not super expensive.
Cheers!
I'd say export all your projects as just doing a plain 'copy' using Files.app won't work properly.
(The audio files are not properly linked so you end up with empty audio events on the time-line).
Don't know if you've created any presets or mini-sampler instruments but it's the same procedure there export rather than using Files.app to copy...
For imported audio & midi-files, those can be copied using Files.app.
As a precaution, keep both Cubasis 2 and Cubasis 3 on the device so you can verify that the projects work as expected before removing Cubasis 2.
Good Luck!
Thank you
Thanks @Samu
I’ve tried the family sharing option, that’s not worked so looks like logging out of my iCloud account temporarily is the only option.
I did purchase the arp and auto tune as a gesture 😁
@lfs Any chance that we can get one of the most standard track timing tools from the Cubase track inspector in Cubasis and that’s Delay Compensation, otherwise known as Negative Delay. Only the host can manage this process as it’s the host that’s in charge of timing.
So why do we need manual delay compensation when well behaved AUv3’s report their latencies to Cubase for automatic delay compensation. The answer is that there’s a multitude of reasons.
The most important of thes is to compansate for instruments with long attacks. Ochestral libraries are the most obvious need here. But even good analog claps have an opening attach that should go ahead of the beat before the main attack hits on the beat.
The second reason is that not even all AUv3s are well behaved and one can frequently end up with timing issues relating to an FX plugin in the chain that either fails to report it’s timing or reports it’s timing incorrectly.
The last of the big reasons is IAA’s. They still make up the majority of FX and sound sources on iOS. And very few of these report their latencies to the host, and even those that do can only report it to AUM, (who made an API available).
A more edge case scenario is that you are recording MIDI performances from external instrumants, eg a modular setup. Timing issues are always something that needs to be corrected here.
You can of course disable track quantisation and slip edit the patterns with timing issues to start ahead of the beat. But this can be hard to manage on large projects.
This isn’t a major feature request, but it is a pretty vital one for anyone whose work in Cubasis primarily involves working with MIDI. I know the iOS way of things is to abstract complexity away from the end user, but I don’t feel that manual delay compensation is one of those areas that should be forgotten because the dream of AUv3s is that delay compensation can be abstracted away from the user altogether.
An 'Anchorpoint' for Audio Events could be handy to have.
This would make it a lot easier to line up audio events to other events.
(Ie. where ever the 'anchor point' is in the audio-file that point is used to snap it to the grid).
And well, I feel it's about time to bring over the Cubase Sampler Track to Cubasis, make it an IAP if you have to!
In Logic it's so darn easy to just grab any audio or midi-event drag it to the 'inspector' and whoops, I get an option to create a sampler instrument and it will even bounce down the midi with effects and all, no hassle, it just works. It will even create slice-points for all the midi-events automagically when slice mode is enabled.
Oh well, if all goes well we'll hopefully get at least one Cubasis update before it's 2022...
This short video will explane the way things work in Cubase ref manual delay compendation. Ableton and most other DCC’s have their own equivelent workflow.
Thank you @jonmoore, @wim, @TimRussell, @LFS for your input.
I decided and bought Cubasis 2 with all IAPs and made a transfer to Cubasis 3. Maybe I'm the only one who bought a C2 after C3, but whatever
I have now choice if necessary; and it is always an additional support for the developer. Kind ragrds.
Thanks @LFS, I’d buy it again if you could give me a reason. Heading toward my 500th track with Cubasis 😎🥳🙏
