Why doesn’t Apple value people making music on iOS?
It bothers me ( not really Really but still). That apple really doesn’t push its platform as a mobile music making powerhouse. Its a real shame but it’s baked deep, for example in the app drawer… I mean App Library, all my photo and drawing apps are grouped automatically in a folder called “creative”… where do I find my music apps!? In a folder called “entertainment”. ENTERTAINMENT!!! That’s just subconscious belittling!!!
ENTERTAINMENT
Sorry and bye.

Odd. Mine all seem to make folders called Music.
I agree with the sentiment, but I've got a whole screen full of folders containing various music apps on my iPad at this point. That's 30 folders of iOS music apps. I haven't checked but it's got to be a few thousand dollars' worth of spending on iOS music apps and I'll be there's others who've spent way more than that.
Yep that's a lot, but a whole lot less than I've spent on "real" guitars, amps, effects, drum machines, etc. that I barely touch any more. In fact I've given a bunch of that stuff away to people who'll use it more than I will.
iOS mightn't be getting enough attention from Apple for music apps, but until there's a comparably reliable platform that offers so much for so cheap, it's where I'll keep spending my money.
That’s much better!! I get this:
Oh yes! I was being a bit silly. I love the platform and the opportunity. But also I think apple could do more. They are all over visual artists and stuff like that.
iOS musicians are still a rare breed compared to the number of iPhone users.
Very very true.
I think the problem rather lies in Apples business strategy. Maximise profits as much as possible. Now that the M1 Macs make good profits again they rather keep marketing the iPad as a companion device.
Just as long as possible.
Sadly Apple became too greedy to be an innovative, creativity or ethical brand. Just like every other monopolistic business.
Because….is an entertainment
Remember the “Meet your new computer…” catch phrase?. Guess the meeting didn’t go too well.
Yes, sadly but understandably...$$$$. That's the sole reason. I recently saw a pie graph showing the breakdown of sales for apple and iPad is lowest on the list. So that tells you one thing. Then look at the app store and see what sells most.. it's mostly social media and games. Music apps are also extremely low on the list.
That said, unlike @jacou 's point, i still feel like out of the many monopolys, apple are one of the few to retain their innovation, creativity and ethics. Even if it doesn't always swing in my favor.
"Innovation, creativity and ethics"
Sorry, I am aware this is one-sided but I couldn't resist. 🤷
I agree, the only real innovations I can see are coming from the developers.
@sevenape but GarageBand DOES fall under Creativity!!! I’ve thrown my fuel on the fire, gonna do the Homer Simpson into the bushes now lol…
And xTrem goes under enterprise. I guess because the icon looks like a stock chart or something??? Has Apple released a more useless thing than that app sorting page? Comically bad.
It depends on the first couple of apps you build your folder from. I do see the Podcast app inside your folder, which falls under Entertainment. I’m not sure what other apps are nested inside your folder, but Apple does provide GarageBand for free. I don’t see anything within the Android platform that is even closely comparable to GarageBand. Android might be ahead on widgets but they are a decade behind supporting mobile music makers.
I’m an Apple guy with some Android devices too… but mobile music production is where I remember laptop music production was 20 years ago: in its infancy, very little respect and considered “new”. I have a pretty good feeling that mobile music support from Apple will be featured next month in their announcements!
From music production POV it’s hard to pick, in general... there is a strong competition...
And still, nothing comes close... so I would expect more innovation like this to come.
Singing animojies, facepalm rejection... endless possibilities
🙌👍
It’s all in the Host/DAW developer’s hands now to make these great iOS instruments and effects shine..
ok.. I’m waiting on AUM Snapshots..
I’m here for the software. Apple can guzzle my horse paste. I’d move to Android in a second if it were a reasonable alternative.
🎖️
Yes. Or maybe more than a decade. I haven't yet found anybody on this forum who would dispute that. I think the point is precisely that some of us are here for that reason alone - that there's simply no mobile alternative.
Enough of these threads about not this, not that, why not, how come…go and make art and music and beautiful creations for the world with the amazing tech and tools you literally have at your fingertips.
Amazing Devs have realized their unique visions to unleash upon the world. No amount of belly aching and 1st world problem complaining will help you to create beautiful things.
It’s time to stop bemoaning what’s missing or lacking and take the baton developers gave us as their apps. Let’s celebrate their great work with the good works we create with these apps.
Now go. Enough of the moany water cooler talk. Get some Sun. Pour some ocean water on your face. Watch some kids play. Have a good cup of coffee or glass of wine.
Life is how we live it. It’s your birth right.
Much love 👊🏼™️💕
Headphone jack.
We do know we can rename folders right? Open the folder and hold down it’s name
Unfortunately that doesn't work in the 'App Library'.
That's weird. I went to check if I put it in a secondary category or something that would cause that. I couldn't see anything. Maybe the algorithm thinks I misspelled NYSE.
This is probably because the only reasonable category to put audio stuff under is "Music" and almost everything else there is entertainment based. This is part of what makes the app store search suck too.
Insane M1 audio crackles using the Official Apple Headphone Dongle.
Other than the "whisper" voices explaining the joke, I thought that was a really well done ad. I don't even care about the headphone jack either.
Why does that guy’s fake accent annoy me so much? Serenity now....
