Simpler MidiMixer?

Hi!, I bought a midi keyboard controller that, apart from the keyboard, only has 4 knobs that send CC messages but it lacks on/off type of buttons that I would like to use to change many things at once by pressing a button.

I was looking for some simple app that I could use to send those on/off type of midi messages by pressing a virtual button, MidiMixer its like a virtual midi controller for AUM but is too much for what I am looking for, any ideas of something like a virtual pad that could trigger midi messages in AUM?

Thanks!

Johann

  • I can enthusiastically recommend Midi Designer Pro 2 - it seems a bit intimidating at first, but a quick glance at the manual or a video tutorial and it reveals itself to be in fact very easy to make the midi controller that you always wished existed! Have fun.

ChordPolyPad can output 2 CCs per pad (on its XY axis). It doesn’t quite respond to a tap, but if you give it a little wiggle it’ll output the desired CC. I just set 1 CC per pad usually.

ChordPolyPad also has multiple layouts, one with like 16 or 32 pads, and another with something like 64.

Of course, if you want to go down the rabbit hole, Drambo can do just about everything you could imagine, except maybe making a sandwich.

  • Mozaic has a 4cc 16pad layout you could easily setup to trigger desired messages?

  • Actually, upon further thought, - because AUM has midi learn, you could set it up to respond to the midi notes of any keyboard app that has note output, like say Thumb Jam or KB1. Note messages are perfect for on off type events (you mentioned that you had some knobs for CC's already). I know that Thumb Jam has a local off setting, which mutes its audio, but of course you could turn off the audio on any app with a keyboard or pads that has a midi note out setting. You likely already own something that could work! The advantage to Midi Designer or Chord polypad is the ability to have bigger buttons on the screen, as compared to a keyboard keys on the screen. Kb-1 has some different display options to suit various approaches.

@bajistaman Since you also own Drambo, why not just use it as an AUv3 plugin just for the pads? You can make them send any MIDI CC or Note messages that you like, even multiple messages at once.

  • Thank you for your suggestions! Will watch some videos to decide which one to use.
