SWAM Viola - quick q about Vibrato

Hi all.
Been enjoying using SWAM flugel, trombone, trumpet.

I bought Viola as an extra but, not sure how to get decent vibrato out of it?

Unlike the other apps in the series, there doesn't seem to be a 'gradual'/granual adjustment dial for adding vibrato.

Instead, you get OFF, 2X, 4X.

seems odd to me?

Given that the tech is there, the implementation is there, I don't see why there isn't this gradual dial on the UI ? Because 2x 4x, .... They just sound like a robot.

Kinda the opposite of what SWAM is all about! :-D

Maybe I'm missing something, and I haven't tried a midi keyboard with a vibrato wheel yet ... but am I missing something?

Had a dig in the settings... No find.

I started thinking.. Maybe viola was one of their earlier releases? and just hadn't gotten round to adding the feature yet?

ideas greatful received.
Thanks guys have a good weekend.

I never like built-in vibrato and prefer to create a natural-sounding vibrato by using their built-in keyboard and waggling my finger back and forth and up and down (with vertical movement influencing bow sensitivity. You can get a very natural vibrato that way.

  • Can you post a screenshot? It looks like it has the vibrato slider on the main interface page to me, as the cello has on my iPad.

    Hi,

It seems you are messing the vibrato and the tremolo !
OFF, 2X, 4X are options for the tremolo, basically multiples of the synced tempo (or free rate).

  • Oh ok interesting. Just looking at it again, I find it on the main screen (as you said above). But I was hoping it would be in the PLAY screen.

(Because at the mo, I'm only using the glass display to play).

And you can't access that on-screen keyboard in the MAIN screen.

    Sure, you can.
In the "Play" screen, just assign to the "Y" cursor the parameter named "Vibrato depth".

  • Ahh! Thanks for this!
Knew it had to be something simple, thanks for setting me straight! :)

    My pleasure !

  • I think if I'm being honest, the SWAM viola is not quite as strong as sons3 others they do such as trombone or trumpets. Maybe I've not had enough time with it yet but it sounds a touch thin to me. ... I don't know .. maybe the violin will sound less so...

  • The firenze v3 model sounds fantastic in my opinion, but I'm as big of a fan of the others.
