Latency on Retro Piano by Audiokit
Hello o/
I was wondering if I get a powerfull iPad if this latency using my midi keyboard will go away? On this spesiffic app, I can keep up with other apps but is seems to want to add alot of mili-seconds. Im using AUM with Retropiano. What u think?

What Buffer Size are you using in the AUM Settings?
I just employed Retro Piano in the same setup I used to test AudioKit’s 909 app. AUM, buffer at 64, app triggered by Rozeta XOX. Waveform then inspected in Twisted Wave. I can see no latency (unlike the 909, grumble). Retro Piano doesn’t have a very pronounced attack, perhaps that’s what you’re hearing?
A more powerful iPad will not improve the latency of an app. It will allow you to set lower latency settings overall but doesn't "speed up" apps.
If Retro Piano adds latency relative to other apps, then it will still do so with a more powerful iPad. But, you should be able to reduce buffers (latency) for all apps so that the difference is less noticeable.
That said, from my tests on my very old Air 2, I see no added latency from Retro Piano. The file below is consistent over four measures of quarter notes. Left channel is a snare hit from Ruismaker, right channel is Retro Piano. Both triggered from the same source.
I got to thinking maybe it could have to do with polyphony, so I tested with a 5-note chord on Retro Piano this time. Still no added latency.
I've noticed that Audiokit apps have pretty bad latency once you go over 256 in buffer. FM Player 2 has always given me this issue.
If you are using BT headphones or speaker, don’t.
Those add a lot of latency.
I can't speak for other apps, but my tests were conducted at 512 buffer. I just repeated them at 1024 and 2048 buffer. Not one shred of timing difference between Ruismaker and Retro Piano.
[edit] Oh yeah baby, FM Player has bad measured latency, apparently one buffer off every time. But not Retro Piano. Not House Mark I either.
I’ve experienced no latency with RetroPiano.
Rhanks for the commebts guys! As always
But I swear Im using an external midi keyboard, could that be the culprit in vombination with this spesiffic app?
I swear its much less with neo soul keys or moog. I’ll fiddle with the latency and attack if its possible to adjust that in retro piano. Could it be uts midi implementation with external controllers could be slower than other apps?
In a host it has no idea whether you're using an external controller or not, so that's not a possibility...
Unless ... wait ... are you using it standalone or in a host like AUM?
