thafknar impulse response how to?
I recently picked up thafknar for ios. I see it has a recorder. what is the best way to create and impulse response for convolution reverb?
what are your techniques?

Also, what is the technique to record IR for guitar caninets?
I doubt many people record their own IR's around here except for novelty purposes. Thafknar is generally used for loading free or purchased IRs recorded by others.
You need an IAP to enable the IR loader and the AUv3 in Thafknar. Then you need to go through a few steps to import them into the app. I don't have time to write out how to do that right now, maybe someone else can explain briefly, or you can search the forum.
Google is your friend for learning about creating IR files. I don't think trying to summarize that body of specialized knowledge here would be too productive.
This'll save you some time: http://polaron.de/Thafknar/index.xml.
There are links to instructions to install IR files as well as a good explanation of what IR files are.
It's very simple to load zipped archives of IR sets into Thafknar. Assuming the zip is already on your iPad, long press on the zip and share with Thafknar, within the app long press on the archive and 'Unpack to impulse responses'. If the IR is a single wav file then Thafknar will ask if you want to open it as an Audio File or an Impulse Response. Tbh, I almost always use Thafknar with my own IR wavs, which are all made for ambient sfx. Probably not what the OP is interested in? The new 2x IR foreground/background crossfade facility is also wonderful...
@eross : Have you read the manual that comes with it?
thanks, yeah i get how to import IR’s into thafknar. but i was just curious if anybody had any tips on making your own IR’s. like what is your process. just a hand clap, of pink noise on a synth? etc?
Evolving filtered, chopped white noise; water trickles from a small stream (higher pitches seem to work better) all make great sfx impulse responses. I've also hand drawn IR wavs in Audacity, just to see what happens at various frequencies and amplitudes; some really pleasing results... at least to my ears lol.
hand drawn waves. interesting. is there any ios apps that can do that?
Thafknar was never planned to be a tool for creating IRs. The presence of the audio recorder has historical causes. I would like to remove it to make the app smaller, but many people use Thafknar just as a simple audio recording tool and then would be quite unhappy. Maybe some day I will design a new, more pure reverb app with a nicer GUI...
That said, you can use Thafknar to record IRs, but you will certainly need to process the files with an audio editor.
ohh ok, that makes more sense. i thought you could use the recorder to make an Impulse response. do you recomend an audio editor to make IR’s on an iphone? because that is where i’m using thafknar. what do you have to do to make them in the audio editor?
Essentially, you have to truncate silence at the start and the end and maybe normalise the values. Maybe some denoising also.
Regarding audio editors on iOS, there are for sure people here that have knowledge about the topic.
oh, so basically just cleaning up the audio. and trimming. cool thanks
