@MisplacedDevelopment nice one That’s it Thanks
@MisplacedDevelopment cheers
and I'm making something similar in function in dRambo.
It’s funny, the one stereo processing trick we need in AUv3 form (AFAIK) is the ability to make the bass mono on a full stereo mix. In it’s simplist form you literally have a crossover where all frequencies below that crossover frequency are ensured to be in mono. It’s an old vinyl mastering trick to help ensure the needle doesn’t jump out of the groove (which is something that happens a lot if there are stereo bass frequencies below 100hz).
These days it’s the secret to a great headphone mix (considering the vast majority of muisc is listened to via headphones that’s an important consideration). If your low frequencies are bang down the middle, the stereo mix sounds far more solid. It’s also important with music intended to be played in clubs, you can end up with nasty phase issues if sub 100hz signal is in stereo. Even music played via a home stereo can benefit from a similar treatment, as things just feel that little more solid. Because bass is unidirectional you don’t always know what’s amiss but the difference is night and day once you hear the mix with bass frequencies made mono in the lower ranges.
You don’t need any fancy mid/side processing to do the trick, something simple like the Utility audio effect in Ableton does the trick. If you want to get fancier the Brainworx line of plugins (desktop) gives you the ultimate M/S control but even with all that fancy pants tech, you’ll still notice an option in the middlle of the bx_Digital v3 titled ‘Mono Maker’, and that does exactly what the Ableton Utility processer does.
If you use Cubasis 3 on ios, you’re in luck as the stereo section of the mastering plugin that was added to v3 allows you to mono a stereo mix below a select frequency too.
you might want to check out Stereo Width for mono making purposes https://apps.apple.com/de/app/stereo-width-control/id1493044617
@nuno_agogo
Nice, I thought I’d probably missed something. Do you happen to know what kind of filters are used on the crossovers? There’s no detail given in the App Store listing.
no i don't but i guess it's a rather flat slope. sometimes i "misuse" this plugin as a low or high cut filter by activating just one band because i like the musically sound of the filters.
