Garageband Articulation ID
I just found out about this and I am hyped. I'm sure I'm just behind the times but try this if you haven't, it's crazy a free DAW has this lol

Super interesting trick, many thanks 🙏 This app is full of secrets 🤫
You can change articulation (legato, staccato,…) AND instrument from strings group (violin, alto, etc) for each note. This also means you can arrange your strings section on a single track.
Surely this must be new to iOS 15. I think I would've found it earlier.
Is there an app update for Garageband specific to iOS 15? It would show up in the App Store. It would not be included in the iOS update itself as Garageband is an app, not part of the OS.
Exactly! This potentially opens up the door for huge string tracks on iOS with a lower DPS load (maybe).
That's how I felt lol. I think it's our expedience to jump off the "beginner" DAW that we never fully explore it.
It’s not new for iOS 15. Correct me if I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure It’s been there ever since GarageBand got smart strings.
There was an update but just stability yada yada
I know articulation could be edited on the desktop version, but I don’t remember being able to do it in iOS.
It's been in there since at least version 2.3.8 (Sept. 26, 2019), iOS 13.1. https://support.apple.com/guide/garageband-ipad/edit-notes-in-regions-chsf2f99dfe/2.3.8/ipados/13.1.
I guess so, but how is it possible I missed being able to edit articulation in iOS on the strings for this long... It just can't be!
It’s been there since version 1.2 in 2012.

Notes can be drawn in, deleted, lengthened, moved around and adjusted for velocity, and instrument choice and articulation for the new Smart Strings can also be selected per note.
I only discovered that last year. 😂
Vegyn makes great use of the GB strings and other smart instruments:
This reminds me of that Muhammad Ali story, in which he goes out to shoot ducks with friends, they're sitting in a boat, ducks are coming, Ali aims, shoots, misses, then turns to his friends with a puzzled face: "Look, there flies a dead duck!"
