In search for a “virtual” controller.

I’m looking for something and don’t know if it already exists:
Is there an AU (MIDI) app that enables me to control different parameters for several synths/effects from one view? So in fact the same functions as an hardware controller but then for use in f.e. AUM. Some sort of MOSAIC for knobs…I know of KRFT but think it’s not exactly what I’m searching for. It doesn’t have to look fancy, as long as I can see which knob is what…

An app that enables me to:

  • Create my own custom grid with controls (buttons, sliders, knobs, XY pad etc.)
  • These controls can be assigned to the different AU’s in AUM (and AUM it’s functions).
  • By opening that one app, I can mute, solo, record, change/influence parameters etc.

Ultimately it could be an option for AUM itself. You create a project and have a separate screen to control things from without the hassle of opening and closing the individual apps in your project.
Any advice, tips, tricks are more than welcome!

I hoped for TouchOSC to finally become an AUv3 but apparently it isn't.

me too. would also work for me, if there was a TouchOSC viewer auv3 that can load TouchOSC projects. No editing, just sending the midi for example.

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • I’m using AUM mainly for processing sound from and through iOS. Hardware/Eurorack goes into the ES-9 and is processed, iOS sounds go back to the ES-9 and I sample them into my MPC One. Everything works fine but the opening and closing of screens is “a thing”. That’s why I would like the option to control everything from one screen. Some sort of modular application that let me place knobs, faders, XY controller and that kind of stuff on just one screen. Within AUM being able to attach the knobs, faders etc. to the desired parameters within my project. So when I f.e. have a K7 Delay loaded together with Pure Acid and only would like to see/manipulate the time and feedback of K7 and the cutoff/resonance of PU, four knobs within the third party app control those four parameters without the need to open up Pure Acid and K7 Delay. I guess, this technically should be possible. Besides my own application for it, I can imagine this could be worthwhile for people who jam or play live.

I'm pretty sure you can get what you want with TouchOSC, even though it's only IAP, not an AU. Midi communication with plugins running in AUM is managed by AUM, and TouchOSC output can be directed to the port labeled as 'AUM' within TouchOSC. You may need to do some research/learning on how to use AUM's "MIDI Control" functionality.

TouchOSC and Midi Designer Pro can both be run in Pop-Over mode in AUM. So it is possible to have the controls on the screen at the same time, even though these apps aren't AUv3. Not ideal, but then again not a whole lot more trouble than arranging AUv3 windows in AUM. Audiobus is great because you can go full split-screen.
