Does anyone know if their desktop plugins are AUv3 or VST3 or are they the older v2 types? I checked on their website but can't tell from the specs.

I read somewhere last year that they were still on v2…

A “name brand” DAW coming to iPad could facilitate things.

Is there a name brand DAW coming to iOS?

Is not Cubasis a “name brand” DAW?

I mean Steinberg - along with eMagic back then - have been there since the beginning. Steinberg invented the VST (and were good enough/savvy enough to make the concept & technicals free to the development community).

You could ask whether we would be making music on iOS at all now with auv3s without Steinberg’s innovation all those years back.

So I’d say Steinberg are very much a name brand. And they have a DAW on here.

Name brand DAW would be Cubase. not Cubasis.

More synth developers would take iPadOS seriously if the DAW vendors did

    WEN LOGIC FOR IOS

That's what I figured from the way the specs are listed. If so, it makes it less likely that they'll be coming to iOS as individual plugins soon.

You guys don't get it - Korg wants customers who will pay $40 for full Gadget. Then the customer, who now loves the app, buys more IAPs for $15 each.

They are not interested in selling $8 AUv3's to a small number of AudioBus Forum enthusiasts.

And that's just the financial side of it. God knows how tricky it is to make the Gadgets AUv3's from a technical point of view.

    Exactly this.

They put the effort in for Electribe wave…so perhaps there’s an appetite for more

Gee... I wonder why it's taking so long?

Maybe a tiny company like Korg doesn't have the resources or know how to do it...

  • I'd be satisfied if Korg would just release a couple new apps like an "iTriton" for $50 each and make those Gadget compatible as well as AUv3. Makes no financial sense to convert existing apps into AUv3, but it does make sense to release new apps as both Gadget compatible and AUv3. 🤷‍♂️

Or maybe the number of sales didn’t justify the effort?

My guess would be that they have an internal infrastructure in place and retooling that would be more difficult than it would be for a small company.

The v2 audio unit is deprecated and I think the old VST spec is too. Maybe that will eventually push more of the bigger companies to get moving on AUv3 and eventually port stuff over to iOS.

Probably economically more viable to do apps that are going to be standalone and work on both the iPad and iPhone. the iPhone market is huge compared to the iPad. Having the possibility of adding in app purchases over time will help too.

Just barely a year ago they announced Auv3 support for Korg Module Pro — and it was very well received. I’m sure that was a major effort.

I wouldn’t have expected them to turn around yet another major port less than a year later.

One a year...mmm... so with 25 or so Gadgets we'll have to wait a mere 25 years before "Operation Korganise" is completed and they are all converted...? Sounds plausable..

  • If Korg were to drop iTriton, iProphecy, i700S and iMDE-X as AUv3's for $29.99 each or in a $99 bundle I'd be all over it!

iWavestation was just update with iOS15 support (maybe some framework updates and a re-compile, don't have any details).
I bet more updates will follow.

Korg seems to have the same approach as Steinberg, they only announce stuff when released...

Yep, which is a good approach

@attakk @Simon How hard can be to make an existing synth an AUV3? Where do I go to do it? I'll do it, should be easy. As easy as typing on computer, which I am doing right now.

    There is a magic switch in the compiler - “/m comp_as_auv3;” 🤫🤫🤫

That’s all that is required. 👍

And if you pretend to take 2 years then you can charge for it as an IAP - isn’t that correct @elf_audio , @brambos etc 😉😁👍
