Transferring NanoStudio Projects to Cubasis
Hi Gang
Any tips and tricks for transferring Ns2 projects to Cubasis (midi not just exporting audio). As much as I love the workflow in NanoStudio there are a few major missing features I keep butting up against and I feel the time has come to fully move across and take a bunch of my half finished compositions with me. At the end of the day it’s just midi data for each track that is needed but alas there is no midi export in Ns2. Any help greatly appreciated.

NS2 has MIDI export. Select the tracks you want to export then touch the Actions button.
Ha, I was almost expecting to be shown as incompetent, and happy to be found so now there is a solution! Thanks so much @wim and sorry for the “boys look”.
Sorry, I should have said "select the clips you want to export" rather than select the tracks you want to export.
Curious as to what major features you find in CB3 not in NS2? 😎👍🏼
Audio tracks probably and, I think there's AU fx automation in Cubasis 3 as well. Two major things missing from NS2 currently.
All good my friend, I knew what you meant. Tried my first project and unfortunately they come into Cubasis all starting the beginning of the timeline instead of their actual start times in the NS2 composition. All the midi regions on each track are glued into one midi file which is understandable but not sure why this doesn’t include space at the start for those tracks that start later. Some manual labour will be involved
Funnily enough it’s less the ability to work with audio at this point and more the inability to record midi information from drum machines and midi plugins. There may be some workarounds for the midi issue however it’s so easy in Cubasis. As mentioned below auV3 automation is missing as well and something I use on the desktop. The missing audio functions is not a dealbreaker as I’m mostly looking to finish projects in Logic and use the iPad as a fairly advanced sketchpad. Regardless I do foresee some iPad only productions so the ability to record Vox and guitar will be needed.
Ok I used the other half of my brain and drew in blank midi regions in the NS2 project where there none. Now everything starts at the beginning of the timeline. Cool!
😎👍🏼
That’s odd @Cambler. When I did this in Cubasis 2, all the tracks started at the beginning of the song, but had blank space in them until the position of the notes in the track. All notes in all tracks were lined up perfectly.
I did have one track (the first one) with a clip that started at the beginning. Maybe that’s all that is needed.
Yeh it seemed strange but I definitely have tracks starting at zero. I’m working in CB3 so not sure if there’s a bug there or it’s at The NS2 end. Regardless, the empty midi region workaround isn’t too tedious. Thanks again for your help.
Did you Try joining all the midi clips for each track together in NS2? Highlight all the clips on a track, tap actions and then join? I’d imagine that might do the trick. May still have to insert some blanks at the beginning but that would save you time from drawing blanks elsewhere
Smart! Thanks for the tip, will try that tomorrow.
