Cubasis 3.3.1 project file corruption

edited October 2021 in General App Discussion

Has anyone of you seen a similar error message recently?

It's not the first time that an exported project cannot be loaded on a different iPad running the same Cubasis version 3.3.1.

There doesn't seem to be a repair facility either that would load as much from the file as possible...

The project has been shared using dropbox, the recommended procedure according to @LFS.

  • Only thing I've bumped into with DropBox is that sometimes files do get corrupted. I do NOT trust DropBox for critical files!
(Even zip files I've manually uploaded and re-downloaded are sometimes 'broken' and some of the mp4 files I've uploaded in the past are broken and can no longer be played). Sometimes uploads are not 'complete' even though the desktop client indicates they are...

Have you tried airdropping the Cubasis session to the other device?
(This to eliminate if it is indeed a DropBox issue or corrupt Cubasis export issue?).

I've only got a 'free' DropBox account so I can't tell if the paid tiers have a more careful treatment of user uploaded files...

    Interesting. Thanks @Samu!
Unfortunately, Airdrop won't work over the ocean ;)

FWIW I have a Dropbox Plus account that I use for business and I have never had an issue in over 10 years.

Yeah, In those cases export it again and see if the glitch goes away...
DropBox updates their iOS/iPadOS app on a pretty regular basis and I usually reboot the device after the update so all the extensions and stuff get reloaded.

Hope you'll get it to work!

    Good to know really...
...I mean this kinda confirms my suspicion that the free accounts may have lower priority and we can not expect the same quality of service as for the paid accounts. (I've never had a single corrupted file on iCloud or Google Drive).

The corrupted file actually came from a paid account and I doubt that dropbox deliberately corrupts data on free accounts.
    Maybe it's the iOS app?
But you say you had the same issue with their desktop client?

Yepp, and sometimes there’s errors in the sync log. When that happens I redowload the file from another device and replace it locally retriggering the sync.

Thankfully this only happens a few times per year…

  • Hi @rs2000,

Thanks for your message, which I've shared and will discuss with our lead engineer.
    Please await our feedback.

    Best,

Perhaps their “free” accounts use a bad file compression scheme to save space and that introduces corruption to files.

I don’t believe that is the case. I’ve used Dropbox since it came out…often in a work environment..with free and paid.

The only “corruption “ issues that I or colleagues ever experienced were related to Mac-format file bundles or Mac files that used extended attributes. I don’t know if Dropbox ever worked out those issues (which, btw, lots of OS-agnostic software has problems with), but for normal flat files (including things like zip and other archive formats).

I don’t doubt that samu ran into some issue, but I don’t think it is common for files to become corrupted by Dropbox.

After reading reports from other C3 users on the Steinberg forum, It appears to be much more likely that it's in fact a C3 v3.3.1 issue.

  • Hi @rs2000,

Please upload the corrupted project file via Dropbox or similar and provide me with the download link, to allow our engineering to further develop the problem. In addition, please add a link to this topic.

    Thanks!

    Best,
    Lars

  • @LFS Just sent you a pm with the project.

    Hi @rs2000,

Thank you for the project download link which I've shared with the team.
Will get back to you, once we have some feedback.

    Stay well,
    Lars

  • Hi @rs2000 again,

One thing that you could try would be to copy the cbp files from the backup folder to the main Cubasis 3 folder (outside the Project folder). They will show up in the MediaBay a few seconds later, maybe one of them is an autosaved backup of the project that got damaged.

    Does this help?

    Best,
    Lars
