Neon Time Stretch & Transient Warping comparison

hey everyone.
for those interested, i’ve uploaded a video comparing time stretch algorithms between Neon, Koala and Cubasis.
I also did a transient warping test between Neon and Auria Pro.
The sample used has a both drums and piano in the arrangement.
Original BPM 151, time stretched to 120, 71 and 40 BPM.

Here is the video of the Transient Warping test :

Not understanding the first video. Is the Neon warping like the warping in Ableton? You can grab a transient and move it? It seems weird to move a transient in a loop that's already in perfect time, no? Better to maybe illustrate with a keyboard part with timing issues? Or am I not understanding this?

Hi, yes i was just moving the transient back and forth to see how it compares to elastique audio. But nice suggestion. I will look into that

  • I mean, it's so amazing that it can be moved like that!

  • @Paa89 : thank you very much for posting this!

  • Yes, thank you. I was looking through a couple tutorial videos to see if anybody had done this yet! And...ahh yikes, in those tests the warping sounds awful. This app looks so good but i guess i won't be using it for any time stretch stuff. wonder if the dev can code it with one of the other algorithms?

What was your takeaway after doing the testing?

this is very useful since Cubasis and other DAWs don’t have warp markers. i believe this APP will get better in time

To be honest, it sounds a bit like sEGments time stretch algorithm, but slightly better.
Compared to elastique audio, when stretched to a lower BPM, it takes away some of the low-end frequencies (for example the kick and bass are slightly present).
When it comes to audio warping, it does a good job with perfect loops, but struggles when for example you try to warp a piano that is out of time.
@4pockets_paul is always implementing new features and won’t be surprised if the time stretch algorithm improves.

  • Interesting.

Heard a lot of aliasing introduced in the Neon example in the Koala and Cubasis comparison. I just read in another post that you might get better results stretching audio in stand alone mode. Have you tried this?

That sounds interesting. i need to test. i mainly use it in Cubasis.
will get back to you soon.

  • Thanks for the very helpful comparison!
I knew that C3 can stretch well but Auria's warping sounds surprisingly good too.

You are welcome. the warp sounds good because Auria Pro uses elastique audio like Cubasis.
