  • @CapnWillie could you maybe merge all the threads? 😂

  • Ridiculous idea @Gavinski ! I was just about to start two new ones. There ought to be at least 6 different threads…

    Lol

  • We've reached 'peak threads' for sure

  • edited December 2022

Is there another one that announces that it’s released in the title and also has a link to the app?

  • Not another thread get a grip

Like Drambo that has 4 or 5 😆

Why am I getting flamed for posting this? There was not a simple post about it being released and also containing a link to the app. The one announcing it in development has ten pages to dig through to find a link and doesn’t even state that it has been released in the title yet. I was just trying to make a simplified post for people, not be controversial, I apologize for deeply offending you all.

Drambo has nothing on this puppy. Six threads is the way to go.

  • Is this the "Favourite Fluss thread of 2022" thread?

    What's all the fluss about?

I wasn't offended - yeah they should be merged with a link in the first post 👍

  • No need to get all FLUSStered

  • Looks like another Spacecraft, only much bigger in installation size 😉

  • The problem with pre release post title threads is after a certain time limit you can’t change the titles to match the app name so I understand why this thread was made.

Not sure if this is a forum hosting thing or something @Michael put in place for admin reasons but it’s always going to cause multi threads as people search after a future date for an app title.

I don't own Fluss (only Spacecraft) so I might be wrong but I would say :

    • Spacecraft : accept MIDI In, polyphonic and MPE, "only" 2 playheads/engines
    • Fluss : no MIDI IN, 3 playheads/engines and kinetics sliders/pads to automate easily parameters for live situations.

That was my take. And I do love spacecraft. I'm on the fence about buying this since I already enjoy using my current granular tools a good deal and having another app to compete with idensity and spacecraft may not actually mean more music.

Spacecraft is my all-time favourite music app.

However, I’m finding Fluss better for cleaner sounding ‘notes’ - the additional options for controlling the grains seem to help create smoother transitions, and having three playheads helps too. Less obvious looping of sound, so better geared towards ambient compositions.

This control is the key for ultra smooth sound or hard stepped grains in Spacecraft:

Thanks, yeah I know that one. But I still think Fluss has the edge on that score - I’m able to create a more smoother ambience in Fluss - probably more to do with the blending of the three playheads than the grain controls, actually.

There’s not a lot in it, but I’d recommend getting both as they have their own individual strengths, and together they offer a heck of a lot of creative potential.

  • I find that Spacecraft is a bit friendlier on the ear, Fluss grains have a tendency to be poppy/clicky if the Grain Size is set too low

Really enjoying Fluss as a full package though, well worth the investment and a lot of fun to play with. With the Shimmer and Filter, the sum is greater than the parts

Fluss doesn’t take midi in? So it’s more of a live performance type instrument and fx?

Update- you can modulate everything in AUM correct?

    Any assistance is appreciated?

Doesn't take midi notes in. You can change key, scale etc inside the app though, performatively, if required. Most parameters are exposed, but record on / off is not exposed, unless I missed it, and there may be others missing, not sure, but the list looks extensive enough

  • @brambos would be useful if user presets were divided into processor and instrument type, as the factory presets are. Currently there is no way of knowing whether a user preset is just a processor or an instrument, unless you actually write this into its title. 👍

The kinetics are very cool and the overall UX of Russ is what you’d expect from Bram (ie, excellent!). But anyone who is on the SpaceCraft beta knows that automation is, well… wink, wink. I sure hope Mark releases SC2 someday soon. Russ and SC2 are a lot of fun together.

I’m probably the only one who did a search on the AppStore for “Russ”, aren’t I? (I’m assuming now Autocorrect is at it again)

  • Holy hell this is good. Big news for me is it works as a recorder in a Studiomux FX slot. I can't remember any other sampling type app that works successfully in Studiomux like this, normally have to go via AUM with all the various associated issues that Studiomux has with that. This means I can record audio (mic in this case) from desktop direct to Fluss and then it's insta-mangled into something beyond my imagination. Floats my fluss for sure.
