Why? Because it matters.
Some of the apps were purchased by another company. Some weren't. The ones purchased by another company could possibly show "locks" on the presets (whatever that is? A screenshot might help.) King of FM was not purchased by anyone and is totally safe to update. 909 hasn't had any updates for years - if you're having problems with that one, then there's definitely something unrelated to the plugin going on. FM Player 2 was purchased, and you may not want to update that one, though you don't really need it if you have King of FM. King of Bass was purchased and might be a problem.
There are different possible problems and answers for almost every app you mentioned.
Something odd is going on here and you're not providing enough detail to guess what it is. Perhaps a screenshot of one of the ones acting up would help. Knowing which host, if any, you're using the apps in would help as well - also if you're having those problems in new projects or in reopening projects that you created before the apps changed hands.
I also asked because I was planning to take the time to try the latest updates of any you list that have the problem, provided I know more about what to look for. I'm not up for wide open guesswork though.
Routing MIDI to King of Digital works just fine for me in the hosts I tried (Drambo, Loopy Pro, AUM). No "locks" on any presets rom what I can tell.

OK, thanks.
Which host: already mentioned, was AUM (new session).
"Something odd..." -several others mentioned these locks above in the thread; if this is odd it is also common.
"you're not providing enough detail"
I did say as much as several other posters did, namely there are locks next to things which do not function in the apps in AUM.
But if more detail might help, taking Digitalism 2000 as an example, there is only one bank, called "0: Bank A," which has no lock icon (icon of a padlock) next to it. All other banks numbered 1-9 (AudioDabbler, RedSkyLullaby and so on) have a padlock next to them and are unavailable to use. There is a slash mark over the random dice which cannot be used. There is a slash mark over the save icon. There are padlocks in the bottom right in Aum next to New Init, New Bank, and Import, none of which can be used. There are also padlocks next to the likewise disabled Favorites, All, and Alphabetical selections.
@UrbanNinja : is it possible you don’t have the latest version? I don’t see those locks in AUM or standalone.
Thanks; just checked King of Digital; that one is fine for me too.
As it happened the first two I checked had the locks. Checking further it is not the case with all the apps....
Digitalism 2000: locks in AUM/presets and certain functions unavailable as described above
King of Digital: OK
Digital D1: OK
FM Player 2: locks in AUM/presets and certain functions unavailable as described above
King of FM: OK
AudioKit Synth One: OK
Analog 909: OK
Bass 808: locks in AUM//presets and certain functions unavailable as described above
For context, remember I have not updated these apps since some of them were sold. My main hope is to preserve presets I had worked on, hence my main question isn't even about the locks and MIDI such (although any info on this is certainly welcome) but how others might advise us at the present time on the question of updating the apps in boldface; have others lost or not lost information in the process of updating those?
@UrbanNinja ; I have no problem routing midi into the AU. The standalones never had virtual midi in ports. I have the originals on one of my iPads.
Thanks espiegel123!! As said I was holding back updating because others said they lost presets they had worked on and was wondering if that was presently an issue. Your reply gives me hope that this can be done without losing what others have said they had lost. I'm mainly wondering if anyone has experienced not losing anything upon updating and especially with Digitalism 2000 which is the app I have the most unique data to lose with
After you update Digitalism 2000, open it first in standalone. It will probably ask you if you want to allow the app to track your usage. Answer with Ask Not to Track. The company that bought it added 3rd party marketing trackers. They're no more harmful than the trackers just about every web site uses, but since iOS gives you the option to block them, why not?
I think the mentions about presets being lost have more to do with projects that people used these plugins in before the apps changed hands. Because they're from another developer now, those instances had to be replaced, thus losing the settings for that project in the host. I don't think the apps changing hands caused loss of saved presets, though I could be wrong.
Unless the current owner of the app as shown in the App Store is "Audiobus Pty Ltd" you don't need to worry about these issues. These are the relevant apps:
Apologies again for all the trouble some of y'all are having.
Changes have been made at AudioKit Pro and please rest assured no further/current AudioKit Pro will be sold.
All the "King of...", Saga, SNES, etc apps are safe
As far as D2000, I was thinking of releasing the D2000 sounds as an update in King of Digital or something when I get some breathing room.
Could you add in-app purchases for more and different patch sets for your apps, @AnalogMatthew ?
I'm trying to help you make more money with your apps here so you don't ever have to think about selling them off again.
Very good to hear!!!
Totally understandable what happened as you lacked full executive control; a definite addition to a much broader argument for trying to achieve full control at the start of any huge project.
It is impossible to calculate the number of companies and jobs and projects that have come to ruin by bean-counters, short-term profit grabbers, investors with conditions for workplaces that don't fit or are otherwise destructive...
I liked the VHS Synth app a lot, I’d definitely purchase any IAPs for the extra presets that were in VHS Synth. I mean the ones from Red Sky Lullaby, Brian Funk, DJ Puzzle, etc.
Yes! And @AnalogMatthew if you’re ever looking for another preset creator I’m available. You’ve done so much for this community and we’re blessed to have you
Matt's current handle is @AnalogMatthew.
Ahh thanks for letting me know
