Moondrop - “Chi-Fi” is legit

Long story short I had to pick a gift under $40. I had nothing in mind as I am free of desire, But I had to pick something. As a musician and martial artist, only one past time needs constant refreshment with products - music.

So I have Beats Studio pro which are an excellent closed back neutral headphone. But I don’t always like having to carry it with a 3.5mm cable in tow, and I don’t always like to worry about the charging and size, especially when I’m mostly using it with my ko2, op1F or iPad

Someone told me about Chinese hi-fidelity. It’s basically hi end audio products at 1/3-1/4 of their US MSRP Counterpart price. I looked at their sub $40 price point because I wanted as flat of an FR sound profile I could find and the rest were Harmon curved.

I found the Super Starship Reference or SSR with a flat bass, mid, and just a small boost in treble advertised on the site. I got the absolute last one available for purchase new as the coincidentally went out of production for their triple priced counterparts , the new Stellaris and Starfield / II… but this is no hype

I can leave my Beats Studio pro for checking the mixes after or trying another set but I think I’m gonna use these 90% of time now

Moondrop is now my go to brand for audio/IEM/headphones. Chi-Fi is really worth it, IEM from Apple would be like $199-299.99 I think similarly

I can’t imagine what their $2600 IEM would do for your sound centers lol

Point is: if you’ve ever wondered about Moondrop, don’t , they are as good as it gets , no better. I hate to say it but I kind of want to get another pair just to have another set (too bad the SSR is OOP, but if anyone finds the SSP or super starship pulse please lmk)

Why no links? Have you no service mind at all?🤣🤣 I'm going to check'em out - if I can find them ... 🧐 Tnakhs!

Edit: Pretty nice stuff, but it wasn't the "china-prices" I expected, way more.

    Mea culpa

    https://moondroplab.com/en/products/ssr

And ofc they range from $15-$2500

The chu and chu II are most popular ones at $16; I went for the $40 ones, but they double almost for each level up , like 40,75/80,150/160,250,500,750, 1000,1500,2500, etc - I mean there a price point for everyone

For me, I didn’t think I would ever find “a brand” (THE brand) for cans but I think if I ever buy headphones I’m gona look at moondrop first and as a benchmark

  • @yellow_eyez

    Nice one.

I've had a look and they look cool.

    Thanks. :)

I own Moondrop Variations since few years now.
They are amazing, deep sub, Harman target tuning
They were on pricier side, but worth every euro
Even after one of them died by my mistake (broke 2pin in socket by accident) they send me replacement

  • Yeah the IEM market is crazy at the moment. I produce on the M8 Tracker ~75% of the time with a pair of Truthear Hexa IEMs. The results are great IMO!

  • I recently bought the moondrop chu I for ELEVEN Euro. Crazy value for the money. And i have the crinacle zero 2. Also great. Now i want to buy different pairs of eartips to try. I was surprised what a HUGE difference eartips make.

You got those! Those are my sweet spot. Can’t go over $500 as the end is $2500….so while they have one or two from 750-100, thats another 1.5 and 2x so $500 is perfect and variations are supposedly like just as good as anything else…..

Does anyone else find once you hit that entry level price point of hi-fi in any category, it kind of all sounds the same quality with slight tonal differences? Like $2000/monitors nearly sound as good as the $20,000 monitors, except for superfine details barely perceptible….same with these, i imagine, i mean how much more transparent can you get for 750,1000,1500,2500? I cant imagine what they sound like though! If my SSR which are considered cheap mid range are this good they must sound like crap compared to your variations

It really is. It’s at its heyday. Come another year, the prices will probably increase as people see the value, not so much for the parts…def not for the labor lol. The Truthear and Moondrop were my two brands i was choosing from, actually the hexa exactly! Great monitor.

Isn’t it incredible you dont need external monitors to actually mix = good to have but not needed now!

Eartips are huge. Just found out the hard way when my eartip was off and i put it in my ear lol. Gives the sub bass a true response and it isolates sound; you need good eartips. Hopefully you get good ones with yours like moon drops usually do - s springs.

The crinaccle truth are a collabo so its great, dual drives too, you have the 2 or the red? Lil bass heavy, i looked at the blue BT ended up with the SSR

You should look into the higher end Moondrop, lmk what you might be after and maybe i can suggest a few in your price

STILL CANT BELEIVE I GOT THE LAST SSR TO PURCHASE ONLINE (for $40), they were OOP and OOS as of Black Friday/Christmas!! Yay :D Christmas gift success!!

  • Same, for iems i found 500 to 600 euro sweetspot, and for electronic music Variations are amazing for this low sub bass. But only when i am on street
For home i own proper planar magnetic headphones, Audeze LCD X, these are my go to. Can't live without them.
Again for headphones i had sweetspot of 1500 euro i was willing to pay.
They were 1300 when i bought them.
