On Affinity. Been a V1 user for better the part of a decade.

If I had to guess, I imagine it will be an all in one app. Reason being, most of the apps already have code for their other apps within them. This is why they never made their versions of other Adobe apps. It wouldn’t have fit with the idea of what suite was going for. To be a full publishing sweet for online, print, media.

That’s not to say that some Canva stuff won’t be implemented, like they previously had options for other stock photo sites and the like.

I could see a world where they have a lifetime buy (that’s their biggest draw, they can’t outright toss it… yet) and you can pay for canva subscription through the app. Not too dissimilar than Lumafusion currently has for their main app.

Also, I could see more AI being implemented, but, I do appreciate the style of which of they brought in their first ai tool, almost like a plug in for object trace where you didn’t have to download it if you didn’t want to. It would be weird to have that approach one day, then switch it to be something else another. I imagine they keep this approach going forward.

But, as a V1 license holder and a V2, seeing the difference of value both licenses have given the length of time before major upgrade versions, that is disappointing to say the least.

All of this is in the, admittedly probably naive, hope that affinity won’t be taken into the depths of enshittification, where it’s near as bad as adobe is.

Still, I don’t see how they would spin that as a positive to their user base. They’ve been working at being an anti-adobe model for over a decade. All that trust and time can’t be for nothing.

We will see. I’m letting my guard down, stupidly, in an attempt to be less cynical / pessimistic.

If I’m wrong, I’ll take a side of hot sauce with that crow I’ll be eating plz and thank u

A V3 all-in-one, one-off purchase, with a Canva bolt-on opional monthly sub would be the least worse-case scenario for me. But it's a hard sell for existing users since V2 is only a couple of years old, still buggy, and there was hardly any new features from V1.

If they don't switch off the server to stop us opening V2 I'll carry on using that. If not I've reinstalled V1 as it doesn't require an online license check. But I won't be buying V3 or a Canva sub.

    Hello,

I understand your concern. If the legacy apps works well in the iOS/iPadOS "27", you can still use those.

Apple has stated that apps not adopting "Scene feature" will become unusable in next year's update, leading to this situation.
If true, many older apps are expected to become unusable in iOS 27.

The new apps are already released in my region.

    The lost functions are:

    • Inter-App Audio (Audiobus)
    • Deprecated Audio Units

You can safely migrate to the "26" version if you don't use those functions. The app preferences and Audio Unit ID are common.
Some issues might occur if you use the both versions simultaneously.

For those who have purchased the older versions, I will prepare update bundles. (Not released yet)
The following prices are in the case if you purchased them at the current price.

    KQ MiniSynth Update Bundle: $11.99 - $9.99 = $2.00
    KQ Dixie Update Bundle: $10.99 - $8.99 = $2.00
    KQ Unotone Update Bundle: $7.99 - $5.99 = $2.00
    KQ Sampei Update Bundle: $11.99 - $9.99 = $2.00

Awesome, thanks for sharing this @RyoutaKira

I thought it might be a technical issue with the new iOS, thanks for explaining everything. I hope my comments weren’t insulting in anyway, I’m a fan of your work, and simply wanted to understand what was happening. I’m happy to see the upgrade bundles. Cheers!

Do you think the apps on iPad are given away for free because Affinity decided so, or is it an accidental mistake? Affinity deleted apps from MacOS AppStore, so why they did not deleted it from iPadOS AppStore, but give away?

Apparently Canva purchased the entire suite of apps.

Looks like the Affinity Suite is being trashed. Either a subscription based V3, or completely replaced by a Canva version.

Message there forum: ‘On October 6 2025, we’ll be transitioning the forums to read-only mode.‘
Lots of fear on the Affinity Reddit sub.

Yep. I purchased the V2 suite a year or so ago, after they stopped updating V1. My concern (and a lot of others) is V2 requires an online license check, so if they replace Affinity with a Canva version (Canva bought them out a couple of years ago) the activation server might not be retained.

best case scenario is V2 doesn't get updates, but keeps working, and is replaced by a new V3. But I don't think that will be the case, and shutting down the forum suggests they're expecting a lot of flak from existing users.

I installed them and the first thing I’m hit with is a subscription paywall that says I need to create an account for a free 7-day trial. Is that normal or something new?

  • Yeah insaw that too but just follow Poppadocrock’s instructions amd it worked like a charm!

RYOUTA Kira a cool developer has did something I’m not exactly excited about. Several of his apps have an update with the update notes saying “this product became deprecated and has been renamed”

And in the App Store description, it says “this is a deprecated product get KQ Dixie 26 instead, if you bought this app recently, you can request a refund”

I mean, why not just have a bundle to upgrade to the new versions? I’m guessing iOS 26 is at least playing a part in this decision…?

All the apps listed below now have Legacy in the name. So far the Legacy apps with this App Store information are….

    KQ Dixie
    KQ Minisynth
    KQ Unitone
    KQ Sampei

The KQ 26 apps are not available at the moment.

What are your thoughts? Maybe this is thread worthy.

Also should I update these? They should still work fine, right? over time they will get less and less attention, correct?

I updated and bought the new version, even though it only works on my phone for now (I can’t update my old iPad Pro to iPadOS 26 and I am not updating macOS to 26 yet either due to incompatibility with Cherry Audio plugins). BUT if you are using any OS version 26 on any device the new KQ Dixie will work on it. And there is a bundle if you previously bought the original KQ that is a couple of dollars cheaper as an upgrade than if you buy it by itself.

    https://apps.apple.com/us/app-bundle/kq-dixie-update-bundle/id1843517393

But you can only buy this bundle using a device running (iPhone/iPad/macOS 26). This link won’t work for a non-OS 26 device.

Looks to me like Affinity discovered their model was a dream that didn’t work and that’s why they sold out to Canva. Subscription model is the only one that works and that’s the kind of model that works best for big corporate customers paying for hundreds or thousands of seats at a time, not individuals with dozens of subscriptions they’re already struggling to pay off.

I fully expect there will be no Affinity branded software support in short order and the only version of their services will be Canva. A tough business decision, but I’m guessing one essential for the stability of their business.

I think there's room for both. Subscription template-based design hell for the masses, and a professional level suite between that and Adobe. Affinity went wrong in their pricing, and painfully slow updates. An Ableton-style model offering different tiers of product, with updates every couple of years, priced at a few hundred quid would have worked for most serious designers who couldn't stump up £800 a year for the Adobe suite.

Instead they went too cheap, which no doubt affected their funds for development.

There'll be no V3, no Affinity Suite after the 30th. The best meat from their bones will be picked clean and integrated into a new Canva 'plan'.

"we’re committed to using our shared resources to continue expanding Affinity’s products through further investment in Affinity as a standalone product suite ... If we do offer a subscription, it will only ever be as an option alongside the perpetual model."
