Rondo for Rhodes and GeoShred (Jazz Electronica)

This started as an AUM patch with Harmony Bloom and MIDISteps. But I got stuck down a rabbit hole of trying to be too clever with Mozaic and then got ensnared by a newly acquired GeoShred Studio which lured me to transfer what I had sketched to desktop. iPad familiars Ting and Bleass Shimmer feature but most of the sounds are Arturia, Surge and a 1978 Rhodes Mark I Stage piano.

Credit: the melody and arp were intended as an entry for @jwmmakerofmusic ‘s December 2024, ‘One Synth, Four Instances’ challenge. Thanks for the initial spark, Jim - only just seen you’d done a rondo too. Great minds!

  • That was so pleasant, mate. :) Well done. I really love this. I'm glad you got the spark from my December challenge. That makes me smile. :)

  • Nice track.. Harmony bloom is so cool, it’s like icing on a cake.

  • Beautiful melody! Like the Rhodes sound <3

  • Love this! I could tell from the intro this would be nice. I like the simple but compelling melody, and how the various instruments traded off, each adding something new. Great arrangement. Mix sounds great in my headphones. Nice track, Andy!

Thanks Jim. Always good to have someone outside my own echo chamber of influences to suggest a new starting point. Much appreciated.

  • What @Paulieworld said… I also like the Rhodes sound a lot 👌

  • Really nice! Love the Rhodes as well!

Thanks. Nursery steps for me with Harmony Bloom - I know it has more to give but pretty much out of the box it gave me a suspended tonality pattern that worked well under the major scale chords of the episodes. And the shimmer reverb added cream on top of the icing!

Thanks @Paulieworld. Doing simple is not so simple as I’m sure you know. So many temptations! I’d like to write something really anthemic and perhaps this a step in that direction? Pleased about your comment on the mix - there’s a fair amount of automation. After seeing my audiology report I think I should probably be making more use of reference tracks too!

Kind of you to say. I was influenced by the classic standards that used strong colour intervals in their melodies. I’m fortunate to have the Rhodes - it’s more than just the sound - the action affects how I play. I used a Dimension D chorus plugin to sweeten the sound further.

  • Thanks for your comments @GeoTony and @Edward_Alexander. I’ve had that Rhodes for over 40 years and it’s getting to that ‘use it or lose it’ time. Think I’ll be featuring it more!

  • Nice interesting use of Harmony bloom ; also the rondo form.
