Freeze AUv3

Hi all - I have previously asked about Reverbs that also do freeze, but am looking for an iOS plug in that just freezes. Ideally this functions like the Electro Harmonix Deep Freeze pedal in that it is just there most of the time doing nothing (with the signal passing through it unaffected) then you press the button and freeze the sound at that point, with the 'live' signal then continuing to pass through unaffected. Reverbs with freeze need you to have the reverb 'on' in order to freeze the reverb, rather than freezing the sound they are given, which means more complicated switching for one thing and often unpredictable results if you are attempting to operate a freeze with a foot pedal. Any suggestions welcome :)
TIA

  • Hi, thought I'd chip-in as there hadn't been much response.

Sadly, I don't have anything I can recommend, and to make matters worse, I've literally just released a reverb today (SploshBox) that has a freeze function, because we really needed another one of those, right? :) I guess the idea of mine was that it'd be simpler / more affordable than some of the fancier reverbs with a freeze mode. Anyway, to your point...

I checked out some demos of the EHX Deep Freeze and think it's a really interesting pedal - especially the "auto" and "gliss" modes which I hadn't seen before in a freeze pedal - very COOL! (no pun intended).

It's definitely got me thinking about doing a dedicated freeze plugin at some point, especially as there don't seem to be any that I could find.

    Cheers, -Rob

  • Is it possible to do a freeze and then not freeze input that comes after it?

If you mean SploshBox, then if I understand correctly, yes, in so much as when Freeze is on, basically your dry signal is passed straight through with no reverb. So for cool ambient stuff, just add a delay before or after! Hopefully someone will do a good demo before too long. I've done a demo, but it's not good, because it doesn't answer your question

Cool. Yea I was checking out your app today that’s why I was asking. Appreciate the explanation, I’ll check it out.

You can split your signal in AUM (Send to Bus), then pass each pipeline through 2 instances of the same reverb, and freeze only one.

Edited: this is a sploshbox question

Thanks Rob - yes it is a really useful pedal that seems to do a specific job well. I haven't found a desktop. plugin that comes close either (AudioThing's Frostbite is one I tried). All plugins seem to do freeze as a very small part of a much wider range of things I don't need - lots of glitch type stuff for example.
Another example of a hardware pedal that does a similar thing is the Gamechanger Audio Plus - even more expensive than the Deep Freeze, and actually presented like a piano sustain pedal which sort of underlines its role.
I look forward to seeing what you come up with :)
