Apematrix… multi-out capable still? (Ans: Yes!)

Has the latest version or two of iOS stripped venerable apematrix of its ability to do multi-out audio? Or has the method of accessing the function changed?

I’m afraid of seeing ApeM increasingly deteriorate into a mound of bugs and broken parts and ultimately abandonment…as of now it appears that multi out is kaput, and certain plug-ins are not working, like fab filter timeles and others… please report if you have experiences similar

  • I was looking for multi-out as well recently with no luck.
Thanks for teaching me the word venerable.

  • I thought that it never supported multi i/o. AFAIR that was the reason for my refund back in the day.

    1.7 Mar 4, 2020

    • Added support for multi-bus input and/or output (sidechaining)
    • Added RAU colours in the matrix and mixer
    • Improved refresh of the AUv3/IAA list

Apparently it was added? I don't think I ever tried it though, and I can't figure out how to make it work now.

I think I misunderstood the post… this seems like support for multichannel AU. I was thinking about hw i/o (ability to receive and send multichannel audio to/from AM).
Still feel like I probably overlooked something back then… for a matrix not having i/o ports? :)

I used to beta on apeMatrix. The multi-outs used to work, because I remember using and testing them for a while once they were released in an update. However, it looks like they don't work anymore for some reason.

Just the other day, I was outputting 3 stereo streams through my audio interface. You can output an individual stereo pair from each matrix, i. e., only 3 stereo channels at a time. Was it different before, or did I misunderstand what you talking about?

If this was meant for me, then yes you understood me correctly, and it confirms that it wasn’t sufficient for my needs - often needed access to 10+ i/o

  • It was different before. Previously any app with multi/out audio buses would change the behavior of the interface such that when you tapped on a RAU, if a multi-out AUV3 already loaded, you would be presented with the option to assign to the next RAU an available output; only if you clicked past that option would you then get the familiar App Library browser.

I had an iPad mini that was running 17 point something and I recall it still worked OK with multi out. (On loan, can’t currently confirm.) I have a few devices running 18.x and none of them seem to support multi -out in apematrix.

ApeMatrix is sadly underscored by the rabble, and remains I think a seminal piece of iOS “daw” design. Aesthetically I find it much more inspiring (spy / 60s Italian retro-future tech) then its more popular rivals, (which are also great, mind you.)

Plus, the precision LFOs available to modulate any AUV3 with a a single tap! Functionally and aesthetically brilliant piece of design. May it persist throughout time eternal!

    Agreed 100% on all accounts

  • I have emailed the developer 2 times in a year asking him to fix issues and adding some features. The reply 6 months ago was that he didn’t have the time to do it. It seems sadly so that Apematrix start to show cracks that aren’t fixed anymore. A simple thing that doesn’t work anymore is loading the last used preset when I start Apematrix. That request usually loads an old preset or a something that doesn’t make sense. I have to manually select the saved preset from the list at every startup. Not a big deal, but it always used to work. Not loading Fabfilter is another issue. Octachron and Gatelab frequently don’t want to load when opening a saved preset and I have to tap the empty slot a few times before it loads. All small annoyances that shows things are getting more buggy. And still, like @Cỗirácâyỗirpthui wrote Apematrix is a great and wonderful host and it’s my one and only host I work with. The speed, the overview and the lfo’s are such a blast to work with that I hate to see this marvelous thing fade away. I’ll email the developer again, let’s hope he will pick things up and give Apematrix a future it deserves.

  • I should email him too… maybe enough voices might keep it going a while yet.

  • New update today seems to have fixed the multi in/out AU problem

  • Also, Fabfilter Pro-Q4 now works in apeMatrix. Grazie Alessandro 👍.

  • Emailed a couple times last week about this issue and they were super responsive, I offered to get on the TestFlight to test before this update, sent me an invite and tested to make sure it was all good.

Great experience, great support, throughly impressed and grateful 🙏🏽🤘🏽

Reposting this on this thread so it’s clear these issues have been fixed.

  • @offbrands same. I reached out as well and he responded back promptly with a solution. I was really impressed. Super cool dude.

Anyone having problems loading files in the standalone sampler? My shared files never show up.

  • He responded in the past but my last attempt to get things moving it stayed silent. Anyway, it works when more people report and very happy I can finally use my Pro-EQ again :)

  • Thanks to everyone who took trouble to reach out to the developer, whether recently or months ago. I would love to see this regularly updated, as it is truly among the most underrated iOS music apps. Not an alternative to a AUM — rather a killer expansion module.
