Heavier Metal by ArteraDSP (Released)
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/heavier-metal/id6746564425
A fully interactive high-gain distortion plugin modeled with Parametric NAM. Available now on macOS & iOS. Introductory price for a limited time.
Heavier Metal is a modern distortion plugin based on one of the most aggressive pedals of the 1990s. Built using Artera DSP's Parametric NAM engine, it delivers not just the sound — but the full behavior of the original circuit.
Every knob. Every nuance. Captured with precision.
This isn't a snapshot. Heavier Metal is fully parametric - meaning all front-panel controls respond just like the original analog pedal. From razor-sharp riffs to soaring leads, it gives you the full expressive range of the original hardware, with the flexibility of a native plugin.
Key Features
- Fully parametric NAM model — not a static capture
- Recreates the full tone-shaping behavior of the original HM-style pedal
- Mid-forward gain structure with massive sustain and tight low-end
- AUv3 plugin for macOS and iOs
- Native support for Apple Silicon (M1/M2)
- Ultra-low CPU usage and near-zero latency
Compatibility
Heavier Metal runs in any AUv3-compatible host such as Logic Pro (Mac/iPad), GarageBand (Mac/ iOS), AUM, Cubasis, and more.
Available exclusively on the App Store.

I've never owned any pedals so I'm not the right man to do comparisons but, this sounds pretty brutal. As it should. This one: supposedly the mother (father?) of the famous Swedish metal sound = all knobs to max. Cool.
So when it says “parametric NAM” does that mean you can turn amp and cab knobs and stuff instead of having to load a NAM file with those settings every time? If so, that’s friggin huge. I’m not a metal guy, so this one’s not for me, but will keep an eye out for others in my lane.
Yes, this is a result of our training method. Each knob and switch is accurately presented and you can tweak them as you like. All of our single pedals and built in amps inside GigFast Lite is captured with this training method.
That's what it means. This one is the third in the series so maybe check the other ones if they're better suited for you. This is the one for me though, so far it really sounds great.

The UI has been criticised before but I'll do it again @ArteraDSP Why all the dead space and thus micro text. So unnecessary.
one moment, got the wrong pic.
We will pause releasing pedals and make changes on the UI as requested. Hopefully it will be much better experience to use the app.
@ArteraDSP
OHHHHH! I was confused, thought this was Aurora not Artera haha. Very impressed with the other two recent drives you put out. Like I said, not a metal enthusiast, but look forward to future releases (perhaps some fuzz or screamers? 😉) I mainly use Tonestack Pro, but I’ll give Gigfast a whirl!
I think I owned the original thing back in my Death Metal days, when I was still young and handsome.
@ArteraDSP
Are your IR loaders compatible with stereo IR files or do they have to be mono? I’ve noticed most of the pro IRs I’ve bought are stereo files and most IR programs require you to convert to mono which is a pain in the bum…
I did a test in Photoshop. Upscaling it 25% and still maintaining the place holder size. It's still small (i.e text under knobs) but a lot better imo. It's all up to you.

BTW @ArteraDSP How do change the name of a preset I've saved: 006 Empty Preset (it's not empty) is a pretty boring name. I want to add my own, you know.
Just double click the preset select box, not the drop down menu for renaming your preset.
@ArteraDSP NAM parametric plugins are the way forward. You guys are creating something very special. Looking forward to some NAM Parametric eqs and compressors. This will for sure change the game. I purchased the Superior Drvie pedal. Will it be possible to add a wet / dry mix dial to blend the wet signal with the original signal?
Do you need to have long hair to use this plugin?
Yep there’s a metal detector inside 😬

Sorry I don’t intend to mock metal enthusiasts. I had a metal phase myself. Playing Ibanez RGs and searching for the heaviest tone 😄
Even went to a music store with a friend to buy a distortion pedal which happened to be that same black metal distortion pedal to find out that it sounded absolutely terrible when playing through his Marshall top and Orange 4x12 that he inherited from his dad haha
Since this pedals will be mostly used inside some host application with mixing capabilities we omitted that feature. You can easily achieve this in your prefered host application.
@ArteraDSP ok no probs, I can insert the pedal on a bus then mix & blend
Ooooo! Like a “pedalboard app”? Sounds rad!
(I guess gigfast already kinda is this haha)
Short demo of Heavier Metal with selection of our plugins. Available on App Store
I'm making a bunch of guitar demo videos for the latest Reinarc apps with a focus on the trio of pedal emulations, starting with Heavier Metal.
By coincidence, I recently tried looking for a used HM2 pedal, and while I'm not a Metalhead, I discovered it has a big range of sounds, and found some people who were making really nice Shoegaze guitar sounds. There are also 2 points in this video where my DI guitar sounds like a late 80's Sonic Youth guitar sound, so I really like it.
I also bought a bundle of pedal emulations recently and this version of the pedal emulation sounds way better than the one I have on desktop.
