Can ChatGPT Induce Psychosis?
Long but interesting read. I take no position on it but found it interesting.

I will say that I was somewhat alarmed when my son mentioned that after deep dives with ChatGPT about his personality, he's convinced that he has strong ADHD, is neurodivergent, and is on the Autism spectrum. The scary thing was his lack of skepticism about what the AI is telling him.
He is somewhat of a divergent thinker (in a good and creative way), is highly intelligent, and needs to have his mind occupied all the time, but never has he showed signs of being autistic or more than mildly ADHD.
I think he's intelligent and rational enough to sort this out, but I'll admit I'm somewhat spooked. Given the way today's psychologists throw meds at people, all it takes is some dumb-ass shrink to send him off on a world of other issues. On the other hand, he's a flake at keeping up with medications, so maybe I don't need to especially worry.

I'll say this much. People should take anything ChatGPT spits out with a grain of salt. Afterall, its "intelligence" is artificial. Might be good for calculating taxes better than a TI-82, but wouldn't bother asking it anything philosophical let alone take any "deep dives".
Then again, about ChatGPT psychosis, there's this billy no mates in (I think it was) California what left his wife to date an AI bot. 🤣

He's married to a real woman, so he needs to get away from the chatbot and touch grass.
Your son could be neurodivergent, but ChatGPT is not a licensed mental health professional. (Neither are the quacks on Betterhelp.com for that matter, lol). I do rely on my therapist and psychiatrist for treatment, but I'm also intelligent enough to know when a medication isn't working or the therapist themself isn't helping. Took me a long while to find the right psychiatrist (pill doctor) and the right therapist.
Yeh. I think the fatal flaw in letting chatGPT influence anything to do with your psyche is its tendency toward confirmation bias. That can so easily lead to an out of control spiral in very bad directions. Couple that with how far much easier it is to noodle around online than it is to go to a professional, and to find the right one, and it's a recipe for disaster.
Exactly. A very slippery slope.
Precisely. I believe in seeking local, in-person therapy, or at least therapy via videocall from an actual healthcare group like Froedtert (which is my healthcare group) as opposed to these online websites like Better Help that really aren't much help at all.
It's important for a person to develop discernment, especially when seeking professional help. Then again, if social media is anything to go by, discernment definitely seems to be in short supply. Some people lack it and post the most outrageous twaddle that really ought to remain private. And I don't mean the stray politics and religion which, honestly, should also remain private. Let's just say a few years ago, I once saw someone post a pic of their freshly pumped breast milk, and I'll leave it at that. 🤦♂️
