Any alternative to 4Pockets Lyricist?
I was planning on using Lyricist on a track and just realised that it no longer works on IPadOS 17.
Are there any alternatives out there?

I don’t know what your timeframe is, but I’d just email Mr.Paul @4pockets_paul @4Pockets_Support and ask if an update is in the works he reminds me of someone who wants perfection, and is rarely idle
Yeah, I thought of that, but given his circumstances right now I don't feel right to bother him...

You can type phase for each note then sequence the phrases with midi.
Aye, Lyricist is sorely missed here, I do hope it can be brought back. I can still load my old projects and they will play back ok, but I don’t dare try to edit or change any settings or I will suffer a crash. I haven’t tried Speak Unit, it may work for some purposes but it looks like it has few of the abilities Lyricist offered.
I went to have a look in the App Store - no longer there it seems - UK
There’s also this one - similar to @hacked_to_pieces suggestion above

If the reason for your request is that, like me, you can’t sing, then Bleass has a couple of vocal apps that might help. Like vocoders on steroids. You can use your own voice (or a text to speech app) and only need to get the rhythm right. Speak in a monotone or sing as close as you can to pitch and play in the notes. With patience you can get decent results.
I was going to suggest this app, but as I have now seen it is no longer free, 3.99€ per month, 3 days free trial.
It also only has a 1-star rating (German App Store).

Yeah, I have this one but I want something more human sounding...
Thanks. I'll have a look at this one...
Hmm...subscription...maybe I could do something with the trial...thanks...
Ok, this one just might do...I'll have to experiment a little...
Good stuff. I think you’ll have to screen record this one then import the video to Koala or whatever to get it into your system.
I just tried to use Lyricist for the first time in quite a while, and it freezes and closes itself anytime I try to do anything.
Went onto the App Store to see if maybe I’d missed an update, and yeah, it’s totally gone.
From reading this thread, sounds like it’s been abandoned and/or the developer is having broader issues…maybe?
Rats. It is gone. I wonder if recent iOS updates have mangled developer access to its speech tools.
Yes - It broke with iOS 17. The developer pulled it from the App Store shortly after. There are no plans to bring it back that I am aware of, but I miss it a lot.
For $daygig I’ve been tasked with porting an iOS app, and the ecosystem is indeed a bloody nightmare.
Any new developments in this area? The only other text-to-speech type vocoders I know of are the old Korg iDS-10 (which is also now gone from the App Store), and the one in Nave (which is cool, but a bit clunky to use and no AUv3) . I think there’s a definite hole in the market here for a dedicated app.
Looked at old threads and apparently Lyricist came out in 2021. That’s a pretty quick timeline for it to become broken abandonware. I know there’s a vague reference to “circumstances” upthread, but the dev seems to currently be churning out new apps at a pretty good clip. Was there ever an explanation of what happened with Lyricist and whether there was any plan to fix or replace it at some point?
You could take a look at VoiSona. It’s similar in concept to Vocaloid. It’s a bit challenging to figure out the UI, but with some time it can be tamed. It comes with a free voice, others are available for a price, but not directly as IAPs.

Here’s a link to the YT video where Paul commented about the changes Apple made to the speech synthesis APIs that broke Lyricist. You could try posting a comment there as well.
I’ve wanted to dig into VoiSona. The means of getting extra voices seemed confusing and expensive though so I’ve kind of avoided it.
I saw Zundamon Maker suggested as an alternative to Pocket Singer. I never used Pocket Singer but Zundamon is free and fun so far.
Zundamon: (free)

I like ivoxel a lot but I don’t think it’s IAA or AUv3. If it is I haven’t been able to figure it out.
iVoxel: ($2.99)

voice bot by Eric Sigth is cool. It doesn’t produce any sound on its own and isn’t exactly intuitive in my opinion. Their apps can be a bit cryptic but fun overall.

I have a few other vocoders but I haven’t tested them out very thoroughly. I don’t know if any of the ones I have can generate words and phrases. Here’s a quick list of what I have if anyone wants features tested out.
Matrix Vocoder: ($4.99)

VoxSyn Pro: ($2.99)

VoiSona: (free)

I’ve been there too when a favorite app just stops working. Have you tried looking into “Songwriter’s Pad” or “Lyric Notepad”? They might work well on iPadOS 17 as alternatives to 4Pockets Lyricist.
This looks promising. And since it’s an AUv instrument, I could run it into a vocoder AUv effect to make it sound more ‘robotic’… 🤔
I’ll check out some of these other ones too. Thanks for the suggestions everyone 👍
Played with VoiSona a bit. It’s definitely on the right track of what I was looking for.
Wish you could trigger notes/words via MIDI, rather than just via its internal sequencer.
Also, as an AUv3 inside NS2, it works fine for a while then just randomly stops responding to NS2’s playhead and its internal play button doesn’t work either. I can’t find any setting that seems like it would have anything to do with it. And the “Freeze” (render) button doesn’t seem to help at all…🤷♀️
Going to try it inside GR2 and Cubasis, see if it does the same thing.
I hadn’t heard of Zundamon, so thanks for mentioning it. It works really well for a free app, no prob with the audio export either, it’s ideal for my level of “vocal\lyrical” requirements…!! 👍
VoiSona seems more stable running inside of Cubasis so far. Haven’t been able to get it to freeze up in there yet.
Wonder what it doesn’t like about NS2?…🤔
This is the first I'd heard of Voisona, and it's really intriguing so far. Does anyone here know if the voice libraries - other than the default one - are actually usable in the iOS version? Or what their license costs? With Lyricist basically gone, and having never quite doing what I needed, this seems to fill the need I had for it, even with the Japanese accenting.
On a related note, Plogue used to sell a really interesting note-triggerable singing VST, and I never understood why they discontinued it. Thankfully I still have a copy on my old Mac.
@garden you can try reaching out to the development team at https://voisona.com/inquiry/ with questions about other voices.
Does VoiSona have a “Save” button that I’m not seeing?
The standalone app has “Export” (which the AUv3 doesn’t), but no Save in either that I can find… 🤔
I've just started experimenting with VoiSona, very promising...

Its double promising 😁
