Midi Keyboard recommendation

Dear Geeks of the forum.

Maybe i missed the above title here but i don't find it.
I'm looking for a Midi Keyboard that i can use for the iPad and for my DAW (Ableton)
I would also like to handle Nobs etc. on both iPad and with Ableton (i think to buy nativeKontrol DDC).
25 Keys will be enough and my favorite now is the Novation Launchkey 25 or Novation Impulse.

But please let me know your experience or other suggestions.

Thank you.

All the best,

Waldemar

  • I'm in a similar situation, it's been too much 'trial'n'error' (I have iRig Keys, Akai LPK25 and CME X-Key).

Of those keyboards the 'keys' to me feel best on the Akai LPK25 but i miss pitch & mod wheels.

I'm leaning towards the Akai MPK Mini Mk II but this time I will do more physical testing before parting with money, the Korg Microkey is also tempting but doesn't have too many controller knobs.

Most of these 'smaller' keyboards also lack aftertouch. This one one thing i thought I 'solved' with the CME X-Key boat my fingers hurt after using it because there is essentially no 'key travel' so when playing hard it's like smacking concrete wall with your fingers...

  • Check out the M-Audio Air mini 32. I have it and it has 8 knobs, 8 pads and the 32 keys work really great. The key feel is not too soft but not hard either. Somewhere in between. I think so far from all the ones I tried, this one was the best feel.
I don't think any of the little mini controllers are going to have key feel like the AXIOM units. Those have the best key feel imho.
