Song Of The Month Club - March 2025

What is the Song of the Month Club?

It's a place where musicians come to give and receive feedback on their work. Anyone is welcome, whatever their level of ability.

The spirit of the club is to contribute: if you submit a song for others to comment on, you should also have the courtesy to listen to everyone else's contributions and give as much feedback as possible. Posting a track and not listening and commenting on others is not cool.

The purpose of feedback is to be honest. Essentially you should give your truthful impressions of the song, whether good or bad. Negative feedback, if done in the right spirit and with courtesy, can be the most useful and can help the artist to grow.

All submissions are welcome, don't hesitate if you want to contribute. We like all kinds of music and we are particularly fond of vocals (but of course we still love a great instrumental). If you are thinking of experimenting with vocals this is a good place to get started.

We ask that you only post one song per month in this thread - if you're lucky enough to be able to produce more, then please just submit your strongest material

And finally, iOS is not a requirement for posting here. If you've recorded your song using nothing but a ukulele and a Fostex 4 track, that's fine.

  • My entry for the month, lyrics in the spoiler:

    Fear
    And silence
    Uneasy compliance

    And hope
    Deserts you
    The terrors convert you

    So freeze
Get down on the ground and just stay on your knees

The knife’s blade is always so near to your heart
You know that it’s waiting to cut you apart

    Threats
    And violence
    The price of your silence

    But now
    It’s too late
    You reckon with your fate

    So freeze
Get down on the ground and just stay on your knees

The knife’s blade is always so near to your heart
You know that it’s waiting to cut you apart

The mid to late 1980s went through a great electronic music phase and it’s a shame it had to die out, but this song sounds just like it came from that era and I enjoyed listening to it, I can hear so many different influences from that great era. 👌

My entry for this month is the chamber string arrangement I was lucky to make for one of my all time favourite piano improvisation by the great and too absent @LinearLineman
In short this was only made possible with Logic function to create complex and adaptive tempo track for this kind of free form improvisation. more details about the process in the thread below

A great track very Yotesque (I invented a new adjective!). I especially like your vocals and even more the performance and mix of your backing vocals which complement perfectly the main vocals.

The other thing I like a lot in the track is the very first guitar that can be heard at 0:16. It has this 60s guitar quality that were typically used to play a theme in the bass with plenty of spring reverb (think something a la James bond theme), and I think it is working very well in the spirit of your track. to be honest I believe the other more distorted guitar tends to eclipse its great quality a bit too much at times, and I believe it could have been great to have only this clean guitar without the distorted one, maybe on the first half of the verse under your vocals. Might increased even more the dynamic range of your track. It is a very minor point but it could be worth giving it a try.
Other than that, the track is absolutely great as much of your recent releases.

  • Just listened to Voice In The Silence, Wow! I’m really impressed, are you professional? You certainly sound as if you are, the music is beautiful and atmospheric, your vocals sound just perfect for this song. Great track 👌

I’d like to submit my cover version of a great blues guitar track, it was originally recorded in 1967 by John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers with the late great Peter Green on lead guitar, the track is called The Supernatural, I made the backing track in Cubase SX2, I played my Horner Professional SG Lion through my Line6 Pocket Pod into Cubase, I also used a Ebow MK2 for the sustain.
    Hope you enjoy it.

Thanks - I'm absolutely not a professional, it's a hobby for me but I'm delighted you like the song 😊

Very nice playing, and lovely lyrical lead lines. The E-Bow is very skillfully deployed, I wouldn't have known that was how you were achieving the sustain if you hadn't said.

The strings complement the piano beautifully, and I love the way the dynamics ebb and flow and the tempo fluctuations. The whole thing is very lyrical and compelling. Listening to this really gives the sense of an unfolding story, and the constant changes are always interesting.

Thank you, without the Ebow, I would have to crank the amp right up and stand in front of the speakers to get the sustain, not sure my neighbours would appreciate it though lol
There is no real skill involved, it’s just a matter of having somewhere safe to quickly put the Ebow when wanting to use the pick.
    🍻

So much passion in your playing, perfect control, beautiful sound, in a way you remind me of the late Keith Emerson when playing his classical tracks. Very much enjoyed this beautiful relaxing music 👌

  • This is a music track that I improvised on two MIDI keyboards connected to Bitwig Studio on a desktop PC. There the MIDI was routed to Solo for the cello, bassoon, violin, and flute; Noire for the piano; Jaeger for the singing voice; and Omnisphere for the other instruments.

After bringing the audio recording into Vegas Pro, I applied the Lurssen Mastering Console plug-in to the audio mix.

    It's titled The Hidden Room.
