A hallmark of human civilization in a random spectrogram recorded in a random cafe
Can you spot it?
Just for fun (not for spam) -- the first correct answer gets a Meow iOS unlock π

The Bloop?
π Maybe, but not the "correct" answer I "meant" π
Lol. Hmmm...I know! You farted in the cafΓ©'s bathroom. π (You can blame growing up with "Ren & Stimpy" and "Rugrats" for the banal side of my humour. Lol.)
Your breakfast plate this morning clearly had a neon sign "Derail this man's thread and whole life" π (and no worries, my humor is as unsophisticated as yours -- but to make it worse: WITHOUT EXTERNAL TRAINING π)
Hahahaha! π Bloody hell that's the laugh I needed this morning mate. Well, I give up guessing, so I'll let some other lucky person win it.
π glad to be of service! You faired well but the medal probably goes to someone else... if at all! (I've had this up on X for 24 h and... no-one!)
Dang bro, hope you don't have to reveal that the answer is "sipping a cuppa", lol.
Well, I WAS sipping a cuppa while recording this, but is CUPPA actually a hallmark of human civilization? π€ (at this point, probably! π)
If you stop to think about it mate, coffee is a hallmark of human civilisation.
Lol. Caffeine keeps us going for longer than without.
Buddha!
Close! π
God?
The pink line around 50 Hz? Electrical hum maybe? Electricity is kind of a hallmark, right?
YES! You did it! π ποΈ Exactly this. I'll PM you the promo code if you like!
(explanation for anyone interested -- the electrical system in most countries runs at 50 Hz AC. This alone probably wouldn't cause enough audible noise to be measurable in most places. However, many large appliances and HVAC systems use these 50 Hz DIRECTLY to power large motors, fans, etc. -- so the 50 Hz is also reflected in all kinds of mechanical noises in random cafes -- like this one!)
π Now is that CLOSER than Buddha or not? π€
Oh wow, cool, I dig it!
Hehe, well Buddha is a hell of a lot closer to God than I am at the moment.
π Fair play! I'm not even sure how close I am on the intergalactic TrueToTheUniverse Richter Scale π₯΄
Woohoo
Sure I'd like a promo code. Thanks for that and the cool puzzle!
And thank you for solving it! Otherwise, my Sunday would have been spent in torment.
π Some existential dread and philosophy...
Sure! Yeah I spotted it when toying around with the spectral view while Bored At Breakfast (could be a song title...). It's funny how most peoples' senses are probably already so overridden by the constant exposure to 50 Hz that we don't even notice it anymore unless visualized on an objective measurement device.
@SevenSystems Thanks again, I tried downloading, but then for the first time felt bad for living in the EU (lesser evil and stuff, I know opinions differ).
As god and buddha might be considered thoughts by some, and electricity being the brain's language, I'd be okay with passing the code on to someone else, who might live in a less regulated space.
OH SHIT, sorry. Yeah, I keep forgetting about that. All you can do then is to try the online demo version just for playing around (it has no Save/Export, pending fundraiser.)
I'd say if you're okay with it, just dump the code here then. First one to pick it up is... first π€‘
Alright, I'll have a play with the online version some time, looks pretty cool!
Here's the code with your explanation:
Here's your code!

Note that the app itself is free to install and try -- the code is for the IAP which is used to unlock Save & Share (forever, no subscription). Hope you can get this going, the process for using IAP promo codes can be a bit convoluted.
Let me know if you need any help or have any questions or suggestions about Meow if you're a first-time user.
So what's the gap in the 125hz band?
Is that the one oasis of quiet in this crazy world? Or is it the dark places of the soul? The technology free zone? A dimensional rift?
I feel like I could make some kind of video about this and start a whole new thing like the 432hz tuning baloney.
Oh man, that's actually interesting. It could be a coincidence (i.e., it just happened that all noises randomly were in other frequency bands), or it's maybe a technical glitch -- iPhone mic has a dip (notch) there for engineering reasons, whatever? It's also full of gunk that accumulated over 4 years so that might be an explanation too π I should've saved the recording for proper analysis later, but then again -- SAVE IS DISABLED because that damn Kickstarter isn't taking off π
Regarding 432 Hz tuning: Yeah, heard about it... Baloney? Probably. I don't think the average animal brain is precision-tuned enough from birth to care about or notice a difference of 2% in average music wavelength...
BTW, to clear the 432 Hz thing up, before I get burnt at the stake:
Yeah of course, if an average person listens to the same song first in 440 Hz and then 432 Hz tuning, they will hear the lower pitch. Trained people or musicians or music enthusiasts might even hear it WITHOUT reference due to perfect pitch.
But the main "baloney" thing to me is when people say that 432 Hz is inherently "better". There's likely nothing intrinsic about the brain and its connections to the receptors in the cochlea that would make 432 Hz universally "better" than 440 Hz, because frankly, the wiring isn't even consistent or precise enough across individuals from birth.
That's it! The frequency of pocket lint! Douglas Adams was way ahead of you, but I think you nailed it.
dibs on The Frequency of Pocket Lint for my next song title.
Sorry for the chatGPT created spam, but I figured no self-respecting German, even an ex-patriot one would have a clue what I'm talking about. Or at least not admit to it. π
Douglas Adams, the author of "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," famously used the concept of "pocket lint" to illustrate the idea of something seemingly insignificant but ultimately important, or a small, insignificant detail that can have a significant impact.
Here's a more detailed explanation:
The Context:
In "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," the supercomputer Deep Thought is tasked with finding the answer to "the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything." After many years of calculation, Deep Thought delivers the answer: 42.
The Point:
Adams uses the concept of "pocket lint" to highlight the absurdity of the situation. The answer, 42, is not just a number; it's a meaningless answer to a question that is supposed to be profound.
The Significance:
The use of "pocket lint" is a humorous way of suggesting that the answer, while seemingly trivial, is actually the ultimate answer. It's a way of poking fun at the idea that the universe might be governed by something as simple and mundane as a piece of lint.
Example:
In the book, the character Arthur Dent, after learning that the Earth is about to be demolished, is told that the answer to the Ultimate Question is 42. He then asks what the question was, and the computer replies, "I'm not sure, but it's something to do with pocket lint."
I don't think the average animal brain is precision-tuned enough from birth to care about or notice a difference of 2% in average music wavelength...
I feel personally offended, why being an average animal
Edit: dropped this π and this β€οΈ
Iβm a fan!
