I Was Cured Alright
No time for the old in-out love. I’ve just come to read the meter.
Comments
Epic cinematic construction.
Viddy well, my droog.
I love how chaotic-but-cohesive the piece is! Really well done.
Cubasis as per usual, mate?
that was exciting, really well done
Always a pleasure. 😊
I dig it!
Hi Jim. I’m still using Cubasis 2. Version 3 has been a disappointment. I have tried all of the recommended fixes, but the latency issues persist. I suspect that they were caused by an iOS update. I have had a few apps go south after updates. Oh well, I just find a workaround. It’s still infinitely better than my old 4 track tape machines.
@cabo @Pxlhg @Edward_Alexander Thank you! Have a great day.
Guess Cubasis 3 wasn't the cure alright. 😂 I'm not sure which latency issues there are in Cubasis 3 since I experience none of those. 🤔 I may be able to help/test out, since Cubasis 3 is my main DAW.
And yeah, iOS updates are notorious for breaking apps. @LFS and team are usually right on top of things with Cubasis 3.
And yes, Cubasis 2 and 3 are both better than those old 4-track tape machines by far! Although ya gotta admit, there was some strange sorcery to those old Tascams. 😎
@jwmmakerofmusic The problem I’m having is the nasty crackling noise when I jump between apps. For example, I start something in Piano Motifs, the jump to Cubasis to record. The recommended fix is to adjust latency in the audio setup. It defaults to 11.6ms. When I change it, the new setting doesn’t hold. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Ahh. So you record Piano Motifs as IAA, mate? I haven't done IAA in a while, so perhaps this is why I never noticed it. Not sure I have any fixes at this time, but hopefully Lars can help us both. 🙏
Great track, sorry but I do prefer the tracks without vocals… in general… but not always 😊
I’m thinking about putting a few more bits into this one. I also found the sound byte of Alex at the very end of the movie…
Another great collage. A nice respite from those thrash metal guitars you've been using lately. 🤓
Hi Paul, melodic and yet with so much going on. Foreboding at times, brilliant choices of instrumentation.
I think I started on a borrowed Fostex 4 track - I’ll never forget the thrill that technology brought me (in another lifetime!)
I agree. I think it's time to try something new, but I'm drawing a blank. The weather is getting nice and I'll be able to sit outside with my iPad this week. That always seem to help. Thanks for listening. Hope you have a great week!
Hi Bill. Great to hear from you! It's been a while. Ironically, I was listening to our collaboration "Distant Ghosts" this weekend. I have been revisiting old material and remixing with my new headphones. Don't know if it improves it much, but it's fun. I also had a Fostex 4 track. Having the ability to overdub was a really big deal at the time. However, sometimes I think it was more fun without all of this new technology. Have a great week.
Great! I'm singing in the rain.
. )
(I had a Fostex, too. Before that 2 Radio Shack cassette recorders
Good to be here Paul - Distant Ghosts was fun! I’ve tried to pull off the same sort of Gilmour-esque vibe for my new song I Walk Beside You, would love to know what you think. As someone who enjoys mixing, it’s always tempting to go back and try again - either because you have new headphones (as in your case), or, because you think you might be better than you were having learnt so much since the original mix - and it’s often not the case! All good fun though. Best wishes to you
I haven't thought about Radio Shack for years. I just looked them up and they are still in business! I remember the TRS-80 computer (Trash-80). Actually not a bad computer, and one of the first with a color monitor.
I would love to viddy Clockwork Orange again, but my wife won't watch it. Too much of the old ultraviolence.
Ok. There needs to be another whole genre for what you do called object oriented composition which we have discussed before. Making music on a macro level where you string together chunks (objects) of sound into truly original compositions. You have always had a gift for that. Here you have taken it to another level by smoothing (can’t think of another word) them together with more granular ideas. It provides the cohesiveness mentioned above. My only comment is there are couple of places that are so nice I wanted more of it. Example: at about 1:29 there’s a melodic line that lasts about 15 seconds. I wanted to hear more of that. But that’s just me. Bravo.
@Paulieworld Movie or Book? I think I read the book before the movie came out and I’m glad I did it in that order to learn
the creative “slang” phrases Anthony Burgess invented.
Nice music by the way.
Thanks Boomer! OOP is a great analogy. I was actually using that approach long before they gave it an official name. Most of my code starts with a single for() loop, waiting for keystrokes. Smoothing is also a great description. I think of it as transitions, but I think I like smoothing better. Whenever I find myself doing it, I will think of you. Have a nice weekend.
The Nadsat slang is one of the things that first appealed to me. It sounds so childish end evil at the same time. I found a dictionary online that lists all of them. Although I've "viddied" the movie several times, I've never read the book. I might get an audio book version at the library one of these days, just to read the infamous chapter 21.
Speaking of movies, we're going to see "Cheech and Chong's Last Movie" tomorrow. I was thinking about swinging by the dispensary to pick up some weed for the occasion, but then I remembered how strong this new stuff is. It's not even fun. I'll just have my usual Bombay Sapphire Martini. Have a nice weekend.
@GeoTony Hi Tony. I took a vacation day and made a few adjustments to this one. Added Alex at the very end. It’s creepy but it works. Beautiful day here in Chicago. Sitting on my patio watching some new neighbors move in. Once they finish with the heavy stuff, I think I’ll stroll over and offer to help.
