but beware the "ocenaudio" app that's in the appstore - it looks shady af and i don't think it has anything to do with the actual development team. pretty sure that one's a dodgy character trying to capitalise on a freeware user base.

Good shout. The one referred to above in the Mac App Store is called ‘ocenaudio Lite’

You don’t need the AppStore for the official version it can be downloaded for free at: https://www.ocenaudio.com

oh, i meant you should avoid this one:

    but that one too.

    they're multiplying, it seems.

i guess freeware developers don't have the money to set lawyers on people. maybe they can appeal to the app store? idk. just thought i should warn you, and anybody else who might be reading.

the audio editor in nanostudio 2 has this covered
maybe it's a little hidden - you get into it via settings and tap "files", then "manage audio files", and that takes you into the library, which is where you'll see the same folders that the files app has access to.

Just trying NS2 but when I go to Settings > Files > Manage Audio Files I don’t have access to ‘On My iPad’ or ‘iCloud’, only ‘Inbox’ (which is empty) and … > Import only gives me the options below:

Likely just user error but not seeing anything obvious. Loading NS2 did give me a warm glow though 😊

i don't know if its built to browse the whole system - i keep a small library in the Nanostudio 2 folder on my phone, so when i look in there, i get this:

here's the same thing through the files app:

i think perhaps the best way would be to use the files app to push your stems over to the inbox?

    gotta love that warm glow!

Ahh ok, that one’s on the normal iPhone/iPad AppStore (not the Mac AppStore).

Looks like it’s from a different developer too.

Remember people, you don’t need the AppStore for the official version it can be downloaded for free at: https://www.ocenaudio.com

  • If you're not in the EU, you can try Meow | Audio Editor for free. I've made it for exactly the purpose you describe.

Ahh I get you you, put the specific files in On My iPad > NanoStudio 2 > Library > Audio 👍 I’ll give that a try later. Thank you 😊

I still think WaveBox is the best audio editor on iOS and I have tried them all. While not perfect it does most of what you want.. (A batch renaming function as well as a more adjustable autochop would be an huge improvement) Audior is a close second but for chopping up big audio files with lots of pieces I prefer Wavebox.

I use Meow Audio Editor .. when I save my file with a file name that’s already used, a dialogue comes up asking to replace the file or keep both .. choosing keep both adds a number after the file name .. (maybe this is a function of the files app and not specific to Meow (?)

So you can load your sample into Meow,
Make your first edit, Click save, give it a name (or, if you don’t wanna re-name it, the file’s current name is auto populated in name field) and pick your save location .. then, each successive save on that exact same file name in the same location will give the replace or keep both option each time you save.

    Example:

    • Load sample
    • Save sample
    • Name Sample .. “Chop test”
    • Edit sample
    • Re-save sample and “Chop test” will appear as sample name
    • Click save
    • Chose keep both
    • “Chop test 2” will be created then “Chop test 3” , etc etc

Also, if you don’t want to just duplicate and add numbers, the first time you save the file you can give the file name all the info you want .. key, bpm, instrument, etc and each time you press save, that info will still be in the file name field , so you might just have to replace a word … “Chop test Am 110bpm _ bass” can easily be changed next time you save by just replacing bass with “piano” or whatever ..

    😄 Beat me to it!

  • Whilst it was a little hidden (or forgotten) I can confirm, the Audio Editor in NS2 was unsurprisingly super slick and easy to use. 35 (redacted 😉) chops later, I’m very impressed, it was a joy to use. Thank you @colonel_mustard and Matt Borstel.

Damn! I have a paid version of Meow somewhere on the iPad! Too tired now but will add this to the shortlist of other apps to check out. Thank you @SevenSystems Perhaps we need an app to remind us of all the apps we have and have forgotten! 😊

  • Check out SynthJacker

glad you gelled with it @Overreach

ricky tines should get in touch with matt, i reckon (since he's managing apple's music apps now). he'd be a nightmare to set deadlines for, but he's so good at what he does.

    happy redacting ;)
