What (if anything) is not clear to you about Lumbeat drummer apps?

The Lumbeat apps are notoriously lacking in good manuals. Not sure yet, but I might do a walkthrough on the forthcoming one, so it would be helpful to know what, if anything, people find unclear about the drummer apps.

For me, the tricky features are MIDI IN/OUT since they are 2 pages deep and tend to expect a direct relationship with another stand alone app… I use AUM so the destination and source targets in AUM are where the two apps connect on routing.
But MIDI is a corner case with mist using these apps for the audio output.

For audio, I typically use export of audio loops to get the great sounds into a DAW. Of course, AUv3 will require a new investigation of the ways to connect this new drummer.

  • My girlfriend is a bit confused and put out that Lum has yet to make a pass at her.

    Are you sure? 🤔😁

    Nicely done!

  • Issues I’ve had (though most have been figured out):

    • Integrating drummers into a recording workflow
    • syncing multiple drummers in song mode
    • Recording MIDI to capture fills
    • the logic behind sending grooves between 3+ drummers
    • The quirks of IAA as a whole are kind of jarring if you’re used to learning with auv3s. Lumbeat has a lot of menu diving, so jumping between a couple gets disorienting - especially if routing through a host
    • Midi mapping
    • iBassist integration

I think each app on its own is straightforward but understanding the Lumbeat ecosystem as a whole is where I feel the docs are lacking. As cool and unique as these apps are, being IAA means learning a dated system if you’re trying to slot them into modern workflows. I hate to harp on IAA, but it makes navigating and learning the apps clunky.

  • That list is good. Where I've struggled in the past:

    • Recording loops that start and end at the right point
    • Recording MIDI output

These things can be done, but I've gone back and had to relearn by trial and error more than once.

I was confused why the Save button is disabled when I would like to save my own rhythm. Then I realized the reason: My rhythm was identical to some of already saved.

  • I find the whole bank etc section list things right in the middle… I think there’s three of them - you know the organisation of the parts & sections of your track bit - drives me nuts so it does. It’s one of the main reasons I don’t use it.

  • If you build it they will come @Gavinski

  • I tried at some point to integrate ibassist but at any given point one of the apps either crashed or did something annoying.

I’d love a basic tutorial which just went through a workflow going you want this style of beat, this level of variation and this is how other Lumbeat apps could be integrated.

  • I've stopped using the drummers and iBassist because the "logic" inside is just miles and miles away from mine.
More than a list of what is obscur for me, I can list what I "understood" : tempo, transport, fills and effects... anything else, and in 1st place the midi configuration, is just totaly counter intuitive for me.

  • It’s not clear to me when Pop Drummer comes out

  • Syncing with other lum beats apps and midi in and out

  • Is Brazilian Drum Machine just completely cut off from the rest of the Lumbeat ecosystem? Might be worth mentioning and suggestions for workarounds, like exporting MIDI (which I can’t find an option for, so may require other workarounds)

For a workaround: I suggest routing the Brazilian DM MIDI into Atom 2 in AUM and save a pre-determined number of bars.
Lumbeats has 17 apps to support and I think Brazilian Drum Machine was one of the earliest products. I can’t wait for #18…
especially if it starts the trend towards AUv3 support.

    Yes! 🙂 @FizzyLizzy27 , @Gavinski , This. 🙂🤘

Holding those MIDI mapping pages open in my head while I do the IAA routing dance takes up too much headspace.

And it would be sorta nice if my drummer gave me a wink or a nod when they are about to jam it up so I can share that info with the other bandmates.

And how can we influence the chord patterns in iBassist in a way that shares the pitch information with other apps in AUM...

Great sounding apps. I am wanting better work-play-flow for getting them playing nice with other great sounding apps... 🙂
