Chord Roulette is $1 off at $.99 - AU Midi FX Chord App

I use this lil fella often. thought it was free tho

Yea it’s a fun and easy to use app, it was free for a while after release but at some point they decided to add a small price. My guess is to cover the cost of keeping it up on the App Store and keeping it updated warranted $1-$2

Melody Bud - Generative Sequencer is $3 off at $3.99
    https://apps.apple.com/us/app/melodybud-generative-sequencer/id1601357369

    >

Is this worth getting if you already have PolyBud? Just trying to work out what it does that PolyBud doesn’t, as PB seems to have more features.

I think so. I enjoy it a lot. I really like the note/grid layout. I'm used to the sliders, but the grid layout is pretty satisfying for input.

If you get on well with PolyBud, may not need it. It's a lot simpler than PolyBud- but I use them together all the time. All of Cem's generators / sequencers are unique enough to get them all.

    Thanks for the reply!

After a bit of digging, the difference seems to be more straightforward control over individual notes (probability, ratchet etc.), though you could still do this by ensuring the individual slider numbers were the same as corresponding notes, in PolyBud as well.

I agree though, the grid layout does look better for adding notes, than the sliders in PolyBud.

It’s cheap as chips at £3.99, but I’m wondering if I should stick with PolyBud and get used to its way of doing things. Hmmm…

Edit: just noticed it’s got Octave and Glide, which PB doesn’t have. I’m overthinking this…I’ll just buy it anyway!

I haven’t necessarily compared them recently but if I recall correctly MelodyBud is a bit more quick and generative where PolyBud takes a bit more time to dial in everything you want. PolyB obviously has randomness too, but Melody is a bit quicker and easier to get it going. There is probably enough difference to enjoy both but I’d recommend watching a quick vid on the tube to make sure it’s different enough for you.

I think that’s right, there’s a bit more to setup in PolyBud, this one does look more straightforward, which is a definite plus at times.

    Sold!

    Enjoy @oldsynthguy

Yeah, totally…. sometimes I just wanna be quick and get something out and other times I want to dial it in, so there’s room for both

    Music Apps with IAP Sales

I already had MIDI Controller but I didn’t have the ability to unlock anything. it just says Pro User in settings.

All DRC Preset Packs on Sale

  • A Couple More Miscellaneous Free IAPs

  • I’m fairly new to the iOS music app buying scene. Having so much fun with loopy pro and several of the apps I’ve recently purchased, especially synths.

I’m looking at Drambo, Octachron, Patterning 3 right now - do they ever go on sale?

Side question: as we approach the Black Friday/Cyber Monday season; is this a period known for music app sales?

Hi @wagdog. You can download AppRaven to see the pricing history of apps. It gives a good clue on the developers sales pattern. A lot of apps go on sale during Black Friday and Cyber Monday, sometimes extending during the holiday season. It's a good time to create or bonify your toolbox.

    Have fun making music,

Just an fyi - AppRaven is also a website if you don’t want to use the app. I use the app, but sometimes if there is a website that is nearly identical to an app I use the web app to save space. Just thought I’d throw that out there. You can’t unlock that in a purchase on the website obviously but you can still see a lot of the same free information you get from the app.

    AppRaven
    https://appraven.net/activity/pricedrops

Update - Actually I didn’t see price history on the website, just some basic sales info. In this case the app is a bit more comprehensive.

Update 2 - Also to find any app and look at details/pricing just search the app on the main page at the top search bar.

Hi @wagdog! I know Drambo and Octachron go on sale, because they were when I bought them. Couldn’t tell you how often, though. I probably found out from this thread.

An additional app I highly recommend checking out is Koala Sampler. I don’t think it ever goes on sale, because its regular price is only $5 and its IAPs are also cheap.

FWIW my most-used app is AUM, which I can’t recommend highly enough. I’m not aware of it ever going on sale. I have plenty of synths, but tbh I probably spend most of my time with the ones by AudioKit. You should also check out Decent Sampler.

    Happy music-making!

  • Thanks all for the info, especially about appraven. I’m feeling like I’m gonna need more memory for my phone, lol.

It’s not a trial, there’s full access… also, the ipad can come up with a separately generated address if you want, no?

Nah your phone has plenty of memory. You will probably want a new one with more storage space though. ☺️

now that you have both Poly/Melody I thought you might enjoy @sfm 's short vidya showing how nicely they work with one another.

    https://youtube.com/shorts/MMUBWhG3qrk?si=XnJrbG0uu8QRzKkU

All of @cem_olcay 's stuff plays nicely with one another. If you own Autobass, try feeding the Midi Input from MelodyBud- it does fun stuff. Lately I have been using the recently updated Kebarp with Sopranotron2/vancouver/pipa into Kaleidoscope and the voicings are absolutely insane.
